How many Police Officers in the U.S used their AR/M4 to take out bad guys in 2009?

How many U.S Police Officers actually shot the BG with an M16/AR/M4 in 2009?

Seems to be lots of Law Enforcement personnel here that are obviously into AR type rifles so I figured it was a good place to ask.

I dont know what you expect and I may be wrong as I am Mil not LE but thats not something in my mind your going to get a lot of comments on. If you want to hear “stories” I think this is the wrong place, using your firearm to “shoot the bad guy” as you say is not like talking about the eight point buck you shot last hunting season.

You will not find alot of officers that will post such a thing, let alone military or op folks.I suggest if you really want to know for some reason that the statistical data either the DOJ or in some cases the military releases may help.

Not a good post. The serious door kickers I know wouldn’t even comment. Shooting someone isn’t a reason to crow for those that have a conscience.

are you looking for stories, or statistics? i’d originally interpreted the question to be looking for statistics, but perhaps i just don’t immediately recognize stupidity when i see it.

Not looking for crowing or stories just a number.

Not going to get it.

you can understand this more if I just say it. Killing folks ain’t good and with it comes great questioning of your innards. You do it to save you and your buds, not to tally kills or claim warriorship. Period

I don’t think he wanted individual users to post their “war stories” about shooting people with an M4/AR15. I think he was just curious about the statistic. It is a good question (if it was meant in this context) since so many law enforcement officers seem to use this weapon system as their patrol rifle/carbine.

whats wrong with statistics? i doubt there’s really any readily avail on this particular topic, but i dont think the guy needs a scolding or lecture because he’s interested to know how often AR/M4s are used in OISs. i’m curious, too.

I am not quite understanding.

I don’t want gory details or any deatails of a shooting. Police shootings are reported on the news. I was just looking for a statistic on the use of a rifle in these shootings.

The offficers on this site are pretty open about their duty rifles so I don’t understand what the problem is about a number.

DOJ and the FBI keep shooting statistics but I don’t know if it is broken down to the type of firearm used in the incident.

No doubt these statistics are kept but getting them compiled throughout the United States and a factual number released to the public may not be easy. And then breaking it down by caliber used, well that’s probably too much to ask for.

The biggest reason is the liability issue. Both defense attorneys and civil lawyers have started to use what leo post on web site such as this one and others, face book, my space and anyone else they can get a hold of them to show enough negative about the officer/deputy to the jury to taint the pool. If you want the numbers go to the FBI. They have the stats.

Dan

Fair enough.

I was just curious how important the rifle was to Police officers.

Looking up Police shootings for the year would be easy but not the weapon used. With the number of rifles used I could see the percentage.

This site seems to be made up of a large amount of Law Enforcement Officers talking about their rifles which is what made me curious ( very ).

Mods please delete this thread. I honestly thought I would just get a number and didn’t realize it would offend anyone.

Sorry to all.
