How long does it take!

Question is if you have every bit & piece and all the tools to do a build. The knowlege, machanical skills . How long would it take to put a AR together.

It took me over two hours but I was sure to wipe each part down to removed any foreign lubrication and to inspect each part. I then lubed/loctited each part (that needed it) right before I installed it

I was meticulous when I put the upper together as it was the most expensive part of the rifle. I also used a toothbrush to clean the thread and ran my finger over them to check for burrs.

I’m sure expert builders could push one out in thirty minutes.

Thanks thats what I was thinking!

Don’t forget to add in the extra hour for little things that go wrong, dropped pins, flying springs etc…wait that just might be me.

I bought a complete upper, so I just assembled the lower and pinned it all together. But, it took about 30-40 minutes by the time I wiped it all down, assembled it & staked the castle nut.

Depends on what components you’re installing and how often you put one together. I take my sweet time and make sure I’m not overlooking something.

I take no pride in kicking out half assed work very quickly.

I did the same, and IIRC my overall assembly time was about the same as yours.

I would suppose when you go from a bare reciever build adding barrel , fsb, gas tube and such that also add to the time and is more techincal as you got to acheive correct alienment for headspacing, sites.

It took me 30 minutes assemble a lower. Haven’t done an upper yet.

depends on if there are already assembled sub-components, such as; is the gas block and gas tube already on the barrel. But in general I’d say around 20-30 minutes.

Not counting the unboxing and inspection of each part as they arrived in the mail, it took me about an hour and a half to put it together. Two people with all the special tools could probably do it in thirty minutes.

Assuming the bench is intact and stocked with all required tools, and there are no parts or fit anomalies, I take about an hour for assembly. That doesn’t include detailed inspection of parts pre-assembly, and inspection/gauging afterward.

I have to ask what purpose does this thread serve? Simply because there are multiple variables at play. Skill level of the builder, what configuration (rail or no rail), modifications to the FSB, etc…

I can build a complete plain jane AR in about 30 minutes. If it has rails depending on type then it may be as long as 45-60 minutes.

A less skilled or new person may need much longer.

I’d have to choose this answer. I enjoy taking my time. There’s no hurry. Last one I did was while watching a football game in the background. Of course had beer and pizza, no rush. It turned out fine.

Nope. Happens to me as well. :jester:
