What I am referring to is artificially reducing the supply so that the market moves up so that someone can put more $$$ in their pocket. Or collaborating with the other growers to the same end. I am all for a free market economy. But also feel there is a time and a place. And from what I have seen it appears not to be the appropriate time IN MY OPINION.
And I’m not talking about DVD’s or IPODS, etc. I’m literally talking about the meat and potatoes on your table at night when you get home. Some has been due to increased exports from foreign markets opening or growing. This is fine too. But I think we should concentrate less on being the worlds bread basket and more on taking care of our own first. Just my .02. And I’m certainly no economist. Just a guy trying to sell some green beans and grits.
Yes and no. Try getting a potentially terminal illness and get back to me. Even the best insurance in the country will leave you with thousands of dollars of debt. It’s one of those things that nobody understands until you or a loved one go through it.
(note, I’m not advocating the “healthcare for all” idea, but something is definitely very wrong with the healthcare and insurance industries in this country)
I’ve done well myself…I’ma Pipefitter, and right now, the outlook is bright. Most of our work right now is powerplant work, The owners of the powerplants(coal-fired) in the area have for the most part run them into the ground, and now the bill has come due…add that to a 4 Billion dollar fine(largest in U.S. history) they got from the EPA(Air Pollution) and now they’re real interested in cleaning their act up…We’ve got work for about the next 3-4 years with more on the way. Almost all of this work is overtime, and that’s the down side, I don’t mind the money ,but when you work 6-10’s for 4-5 months(or more) at a time it gets old fast…Suffering??I’m not, but maybe all the illegals I see in the area are because they don’t have all the “rights” they think they should have just because they’re here…
My outtake on Iraq is this, I don’t think there was ever a question that we could kick their asses, which we did and rather quickly. The problem I see is it looks like we really did’nt have a plan for what to do afterwards…I honestly feel we need to get the Iraqui’s to step up to the plate and start doing their own security, and stand on their own two feet. and we need to figure a way out we can’t stay forever, and the cost is eventually going to catch up with us…Was it worth it? yes, we took the war to them, (terrorists) not the other way around, and we’ve pretty much bottled them up in their own backyard. I feel they would have folded up along time ago if it were not for help from Iran, and China, It amazes me how many people think China is our “friend.” I cringe when I think Obmba may be our next president. I really hope I’m wrong, alot of people want someone to “blame” and Pres. Bush is it, I don’t agree with everything he did, but, I don’t blame him for everything either, you listen to some people and they’re convinced Bush is personally responsible for high oil, the housing collaspse, etc, etc, sadly, these people vote…
LOL, good one Carl. What I am saying is the liberals keep telling me how bad it is and that they blame Bush for it. My life is good so am wondering if I am the only one that has not “suffered” under Bush.
I do love this. So I buy a house I cannot afford because I got a super low loan. Then the loan adjusted and I cannot afford the house I bought. So because of my own stupidity, I am going to lose my house. The Dems believe that the Govt should come in and save them from their own stupidity!
This drive me nuts! I would love to buy stuff that I cannot afford and have someone else pay my bills!
41, second marriage, 6 kids between us ( one being 8 months old ). I have a dead end job at the moment, but I have a job. I work in Tulsa , Oklahoma , which has the lowest un-employment rate in the COUNTRY. I am waititng to test for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. I tested twice before in 1999 and 2000 before I had to withdraw due to divorce. I am waiting now because my wife has to student teach for a semester before she can actually start teaching secondary math. We are living off of my paycheck, and have been for some time. We will be living this way for another year. Things are tight. But I can say my life is better now than it ever has been. The Lord seems to get us through each month just fine.
Despite what the mainstream media might say, I have not suffered.
My step Father has just survived cancer. He was self employed and the minute his treatment was done, they basically dropped him.
So I am somewhat for a Govt run health care, but there are MANY problems with this. How does everyone feel about paying for the health care of 50 million illegal’s?? How does waiting 6 months for an MRI sound? Social medicine has a lot of down sides as well and am not sure it is the answer to the problem.
State run health insurance that we contribute to like social security or medicare would be one thing. Paying for some moron that got knocked up twice by the time they were 18 and has NEVER held a job (and there are families where nobody has held a job in generations) is another thing entirely.
Although, I would pay their health care costs if they agreed to chemical sterilization.
But see trio’s comments. The foreclosure numbers are really very low, yet they cause a chain reaction that spirals all home values down. I’m in the same situation. I make much more money than I did 6 years ago when I bought my home. I got a conventional, affordable, fixed-rate loan. I can afford the house I bought. My loan did not adjust. There was no stupidity on my part. I am not going to lose my house. However, my home’s value is down over 20% on paper and in reality it might as well be worth nothing because I probably couldn’t sell it at any price. Who would buy my home when the same house is available a block away at a foreclosed price? Then again, who would buy that home when there are 10 more like it in the neighborhood?
So, I can’t realistically move because my house wouldn’t sell. If it did, the hit wouldn’t be something I could take. 6 years of equity isn’t close to how much value I’ve lost.
I am a blessed American. Yes, there could be improvements in this country but what Barack is proposing is not an improvement.
I am at a customers the other day and I see a poll on his desk from a political group. The poll asked if he would like to see Congress enact a bill to limit the price of gas, he checked yes. It asked if he would like to see higher taxes on oil companies making windfall profits, he checked yes.
This guy drives a Chevy Duramax pickup and just bought a brand new H2 Hummer.
I just wonder if he knew how much he paid in luxury taxes.:rolleyes:
Sometimes I wish these people would look into the future and see what life would be like under Obama. Yep, they will get their low fuel prices but you know that he will make them drive a Prius to get it.
I see nothing wrong with driving a SUV or a Prius, I just have a hard time with the government telling me what I can or cannot do.
I think a lot of people look at the “windfall tax” as a very good thing. I mean how much should companies be allowed to make? After all, its not like were in a capitalistic society or something. Oh wait we are.
So if Congress decides that a company has to be penalized for doing well, what’s next? Are they going to create a special tax for the uber wealthy because they have made too much money? Oh wait, they are trying to do that now.
When I hear people telling me that the govt should create a special tax for companies that make a certain amount of money, I just cringe as this is the start of socialism. I try to imagine the govt telling me that G&R Tactical has made too much money so they are going to tax me especially hard so they can “redistribute my wealth to other people.”
Did you notice the change in the amount of applause and enthusiasm when he went from talking about all the handouts the government should be giving to taking personal responsibility (ie fathers turn the TV off and raise you sons etc)???
They were ROARING when he was talking about health care and all the other socialist programs but man when he started telling people to take responsibility for their raising their kids etc that place died down quick.
Ya I saw that. It is my firm belief that liberals are actually socialists in disguise and believe that the Govt SHOULD be doing everything for you (as you are too stupid to do things on your own). They seem to believe that the Govt owes them something. They want to do as little work as possible and get and get all the rewards of a capitalistic society. This is also why they like unions. You can do half the work as someone else and you get paid the same.
My mother-in-law was born and raised in France. 100% socialist so don’t get me started.
