I wanted a fatter pistol grip for my M&P15. When the CAA grip arrived today, I realized I had no idea how to remove the existing grip or even if it’s possible to swap the CAA for the S&W. Did a search and got no hits. Can anyone help?
Is this a standard A2 grip?
If it is, there should be a hole at the bottom of the grip.
Look in it. There should be a screw.
Unscrew it with a screwdriver.
Make sure the selector spring does not fly out.
Thanks. There is something that looks like a bolthead there, but it is round and doesn’t appear to have a slot. I’ll nudge around tomorrow with a screwdriver to see if I can get it to grip – rifle and tools are out in the barn and I’ll need daylight.
My Stock A2 grip required a rather large Hex Screw. Try that.
The S&W has a Hex/ Allen head screw in it. Watch out for the safety spring when you pull off the grip.
Inside the grip is a allen head screw, remove that slowly and get the tension spring before it falls out. put the spring in the new grip (in the small hole in the grip) and re-install.
Something to consider. Replace that gay ass hex head with a standard slotted tip pistol grip screw. I have done that to all of the carbines that are issued out to ex pat personnel. Reasoning was I had some of them loosening up when guys were away from the main FOB and I didn’t want them dicking around trying to tighten it, especially since you can’t find the correct hex wrench/ tip.
Ooooh, why go with a CAA product??? Magpul, TD, etc all make a MUCH better product.

Yes, it’s an allen head (needing a longer one than I own).
I really appreciate y’alls quick response to my question
and when I get the right wrench I’ll be alert for the spring.
As to my choice of the CAA grip, I like the size and the looks of it.
If it doesn’t live up to my expectations, I’ll take your advice and
go with Magpul.
Thanks again for all your help. This site is a valuable resource.
I have the CAA and love it. I t feels great and looks tuff to.
The selector detent pin spring is a big one to watch out for.
When I pull my grips I make sure to pull the grip straight away from the receiver. I place the gun laying sideways with the selector facing up, which makes it easier to control the spring and pin. If you pull the grip off by pulling it rearward you will likely bend the spring, which is never a good thing.
I have the CAA rubber Hogue grip; works good and I like it a lot. I don’t care for the plastic CAA grip though and would go with Magpul if that was the case. At least for the storage.
I had the houge grip and it was to sticky, everything stuck to it like belly button fuzz.
Ive ran one for years before the Miad came out. Never had anything stick to it but my hand, and thats a good thing.
The CAA grip is a knockoff of the Israeli grip that is pretty popular in some crowds. I have one of the real ones on one of my rifles and honestly it is really good.
It is the only CAA part besides their collapsible buttock that I will put on my rifles.
The CAA is built tough and fits the hand good.
A friend had the right allen bit for the job and I now have the CAA grip (with spring) on my rifle.
It feels just right (nice to live where you can shoot as much as you like on your own property). And it looks like the grip Batman would have on his weapon.
My Batmobile is a Ruff&Tuff electric buggy with the gun mounted right over the dash so it’s always right in front of me which is why it matters to me what it looks like.
Thanks again for your help.
I had the CAA grip on my blaster prior to the installation of the MIAD. I really did like it, and have it laying around for an 870 project if I ever get around to it…
When I’d installed the MIAD, I crimped the selector spring, rendering my switch useless. Finding one of those springs was an absolute and total nightmare.
For future info. The selector lever detent spring is the same as the ejector spring. ![]()
