I’m adding a non- tactical scope with a large front lens and medium rear lens to my M4 so I can use it for pest control on the farm. How can I determine correct ring height so it clears my rear (folding) iron sight and front lens above the rail?
Installing the scope as low as possible might be the norm with traditional bolt guns, but it doesn’t really work for ARs. You want the scope to be as tall as iron sights so that an appropriate cheek weld can be achieved.
The easy answer is to get a standard 1.5" tall mount that’s designed for the AR platform. It’ll also include the necessary forward offset to put the ocular lens where it needs to be for proper eye relief.
