Hot Tip of the Day

So I get my teeth cleaned this morning and I’m shooting the shit with the hygienist (been going to the same dentist for close to 40 years so we know each other) and we get to talking about the various instruments she uses, what they’re for, how they’re sharpened, etc. And it turns out they use a bunch of them and they routinely wear out and have to be replaced.

So where do the old ones go? Well, a half a dozen of them came home with me along with my new toothbrush, floss, and normal dental goodie bag. Perfect assortment of picks for cleaning and scraping all those hard to get to pieces and parts that get choked up with carbon and other assorted bullshit.

So if you want some handy gun cleaning tools, ask your dentist for some of those worn-out cleaning instruments during your next checkup.

Ha ha! That takes me back to my childhood days. My dad used to bring dental tools home for gun cleaning. The Dentist knew he was a Cop. I still have a few of them.

I have a couple in my gun cart. It is amazing how often I use them. From scraping carbon to lining up small springs and pins. Great tools to have!

Thank You Sir;
I will give that a try.

I sure hope you were able to get them from the ‘clean’ bucket!

Regular flossing will help negate the need for dental picks to clean your guns.

Yeah, no kidding… be sure they have been through an autoclave.

Roger that. Just to be double safe, I plan to douse them with some Hoppe’s No. 9.

So is a BoreSnake like gun floss?

Good to know. I can’t wait to see the look on my dentists face when I say they are for gun cleaning as he is not very gun friendly.

My dentist was an M1 Abrams gunner. He will like my idea…

Absolutely brilliant. Thank you for the great advice. Something I never would have thought of. It’s nuggets of info like this that make this place so awesome.

I snagged a couple of those mirrors one time for working on cars. Those things come in so handy.
