Hornady Steel Training Ammo-----where is it in stock

Anyone know who has Hornady steel training in stock? Either 55grn or 75grn…preferably 500-1000rnd case lot.

Last lot I bought was from ammunition to go and now it seems that they only have the Hornady 52grn steel match HP in stock…maybe I should just get that and call it a day.

Thanks

ADH

I just started shooting the 223 Hornady 55gr. Steel Match HP today, at 25 yards through one hole, less than 1 inch at 100 yards. My 9 year old grandson shot it all in the 9 ring or better, and he started shooting a 22 pistol and rifle just this week.

Shooting a 223 wylde 17 inch upper, still have a lot of Black Hills and the good Hornady, my upper really likes the 52 and 55 grn ammo.

But the price for 50 rounds is !!! $15.95

Ammunition to Go seems to have the lowest price. I checked with many others and they were sold out.

Hornady training ammo is no longer the bargain it was a couple of years ago and is now off my preferred list for training ammo.

I was on Midway USA’s site earlier and I believe they have the 75gr stuff in stock.

I know there is much hate for Botach. But they sell the Hornady steel at reasonable prices and they ship pretty fast. Always call though!

Sportsmans Guide has it for about 400.00 per case delivered (75gr.) which is what you will just about pay for standard 5.56 right now. Prices are going to go up again soon I predict as well.

Does anybody know where the 7.62x39 is in stock? I have been looking for it for months.

You either haven’t looked hard, are looking for a particular price point, or you’re being very particular about manufacturer but AmmunitionToGo has it on hand in several varieties. PalmetoStateArmory has “some”, and JGSales always has it.

Where have you been looking? Seems to be plenty of it right here:

I assumed that since the thread was about HORNADY STEEL AMMO everyone would know that I was talking about Hornady Steel cased 7.62x39. I apologize for assuming anything.

Now to ask my question a different way. Who has Hornady Steel cased 7.62x39 in stock.

May have over looked it, but I didn’t see any Hornady on that page.

Jason, I have never seen the Hornady 7.62x39 anywhere, ever. Frankly, it never made sense to me.

Back when the Hornady 5.56 training ammo came out it was a novel prospect, the use of cheaper Russian steal cases with U.S. bullets, primers, and powder, ending up with a training round significantly cheaper than brass cased competitors. It was a bargain.

7.62x39, however, doesn’t present the same market conditions as the Hornady 5.56 did. Hornady can’t build a cheaper round than the Russian/East European imports, especially the surplus, making the round a market “dud”, so to speak. If you find any, anywhere let me know what it costs, I’m sure the price will be shocking.

I have never been able to locate it either. I know I doesn’t make economical sense when compared to the Eastern European and Russian stuff. However, I had read Doc’s test on this cartridge and wanted to try the Hornady stuff in my rifle as a possible defense round. The bullet they (Hornady) use in their steel case 7.62 is supposed to be good stuff. I believe the Winchester soft point was another recommended round for this situation, so I guess I’ll grab some of it and see how it works.

Sorry for the outrageous thread hi-jack.

I saw some today in a Gander Mountain store in Wisconsin. And yes, it was so ridiculously priced I couldn’t believe it.

To the OP, It is pretty clear that Hornady training ammo, although a quality product, just doesn’t represent the bargain it once was, especially in the 55gr, where overrun or new production brass cased ammo can be found for the same price or significantly cheaper.
