For some reason I keep getting an error screen when I try to search and I just went through a couple of pages quickly and couldn’t find my answer.
What is the difference between the TAP load and the Training Load from Hornady other then the case? I know that there a few differences between Black Hills Blue and Red boxes, but I haven’t really seen anything that outlines the differences between the Training load and regular. I guess what I really asking is that for the price I am very tempted to just stock the Training load for all of my uses and get a few boxes of something else for barriers. Is my thinking screwed up?
“The steel case training ammo doesn’t undergo the more extensive quality control that our duty ammo does. Yes, we do all we can to insure it will shoot, but if the bullet nose is a little deformed, for training ammo, that’s OK. If it was a duty round, we’d pull it out and not sell it. The powder we use in the training ammo is not necessarily a low flash powder like the duty rounds use. We do load the same bullet in the training round that we use in the duty round. If you wanted to use this for pest control, you’d probably be OK, we just don’t want police officers using it to defend themselves or to rely on it to put down a perp in a “have to” situation.”
So, it should offer the same performance as the TAP round if nothing was messed up during manufacturing. I would trust it more than I would govt contract XM193 as a defense load. Get a Vortex to hide your flash, and clean your chamber about every thousand rounds. Steel casings don’t swell as much as brass do, so more carbon seeps into the chamber and gets it dirty faster.
From my experience the 55gr doesn’t use the same projectile. The projectile on the regular 55 gr TAP has a polymer tip on it while the training is just regular FMJ.
I’ve got some of this ammo in both 55gr and 75gr. vaglocker is right in that the 55gr stuff is FMJ. The 75gr practice load shares the same bullet as the regular 75gr TAP which is a OTM. That is why it is considerably more expensive than the 55gr practice loads.
