Great video. Something to think about.
Cool vid for sure.
He was stationed at MNB-TK, Tarin Kowt, in the Uruzgan province. I was just got back from there, the video looks like it was filmed earlier than this year. The footage at 3:11 is at the PHQ and when we first got there in July it looked similar to that, now the grounds are covered in gardens, all sorts of different flowers, the 2nd in command, Col Sadat is an avid gardener and has been really pushing to improve the area.
As to the diggers having ACOGs on their Steyrs, when I was there all the combat troops had them where as the support personnel and Air Force had that traditional optic, the skinny one. Also saw, and got to shoot, H&K 417s, most had the larger ACOGs on them, the one I got to shoot had a S&B on it, also got to shoot one of their Blaser .338LM as well. I’m thinking that most likely the guy in the film was part of the OCCP team, as they got out of the base about as often as us on the SFAAT did, I’m doubting he was part of the SAS or SF group, I’m thinking those dudes aren’t the type to film stuff, that and they never came to the PHQ, at least not when we were there.
Thanks for the info man! I’m thinking when they came to Hawaii for RIMPAC (with their silly Kangaroos on the side of their ships…okay, I’m actually really jealous) they had the skinny optics. I wonder if that’s anything like us where we usually send POG units on exercises like RIMPAC, mainly due to the operational tempo of our combat units.
I read up on him and he appears to just be a regular digger. He got out of the Australian military in 2012 so this video could’ve been as early as 2009. I’m not sure how long their enlistments are.
good video.
