I have been talking alot about doing some stippling at home with a 5.00 soldering iron I found in the electrical section @ Wally world and decided it was time to put up or shut up so I am putting my money where my mouth is.
I will post other stipple jobs in applicable forums when I get a chance but first up is my XD45 tactical, which I am sure most of you would enjoy hearing was my test dummy(the HK sure as hell wasnt going to be “it”)
I also use Mob grip tape on top of the slide on my pistols to enhance my slide manipulation abilities. Grip tape is the only option since I wont dare take a hammer and a punch to any of my guns.
I used the excess tabs left over from my decal grip set before and they have since fallen off…Still on the same kydex holster. After getting a couple recommendations by those I tend to listen to more often than not, I opted for grip tape this time. I have not used this grip tape long enough to wear out any holsters but I also only use kydex kits and I seriously doubt it would cause any significant wear, especially once it rubs to the point to were it doesnt rub anymore. I see putting it on the sides as having more of an effect on the holster and the fit than the tape being on top. I guess we will have to see but who knows it may begin to peel after really hard use and if that happens I will ditch the idea all together.
I used the ball point tip that came with the soldering iron.
I noticed the different tips in the woodburning kit but those just lead to trouble.
I like the simple pore the ball point tip burns in. If I want an oval shape I just cant the iron and use the side of the tip.
