Armed intruders, dressed in police raid gear, shot and seriously injured a Phoenix man Thursday after forcing their way into his home near 31st and Southern avenues
I cant see police kicking down my door ? but with the trend I wonder what I would do if they mistook my house ?
I live in a nice area so again cant see that happening but still makes me wonder how I would handle it
I tried to post an article several months back about a similar incident that happened in Phoenix. In that case up to four armed men dressed in military outfits forced their way into a home claiming to be police and then started robbing the home owner. When he tried to defend his residence he was shot more than 30 times and left in a pool of blood. The cops finally surrounded the crew and arrested them only to find out they were members of the Mexican military. They had been hired by a drug cartel in mexico to comit robberies and assassinations inside the U.S. Be carefull next time you answer the door!
The event of which you speak was not a random act of violence, but members of the Mexican authorities seeking revenge on a drug cartel member who was hiding in a DEA identified Mexican cartel safe house in the US after the murder of several Mexican law enforcement officers… Additionally they were not in US Police or Military uniforms…
There is a real shooting war going on just south of the border and some of its violence is going to spill across into the States…
yeah I remember that one also very scary
lucky it was more a hired hit but still not a good feeling about who and why were up here !!!
I tell ya although the islands limited my weapons we never had these problems at all !
I guess my fear is for the common home invasions to start using this tactic
while bad things happen on rare mistake I really dont worry to much about the regular police good link though
also I dont worry to much about the drug cartel hits
home invasions of the type that have happened here now a few times when a gal comes to the door claiming to need help
then the victim opens the door and they get rushed
those are the types of people I worry about invading using new techniques
I really think you have to balance caution with paranoid feelings
in general there are tons of idiots and most are not out to get you but some are
those some are usually wanting a weak target not making myself a weak target should stop most things from happening
having a balance of defense will hopefully stop the other part
those that are going to get you ! will get you like the drug cartel hits but thugs looking at a easy target will skip you unless they really want something you have and they know only you posses it ?
I’ve had officers at my door three times, once because of mistaken identity and twice because the deputy got the wrong address when serving bench warrants. The latter two incidents were at an aparment in a fairly nice area, the first occurred in a dorm at Vanderbilt (which is generally considered a nice area).
I do hear ya on the wrong address and will never say never
I think condos are way more chances of it happening than a house
so while they do happen to innocent people seems the majority do live in condos the others at homes seems a convicted felon was in the house and or their were drugs in the house
tough one as accidents do happen but I also want police to keep kicking in doors of bad guys ! so its a tough balance and when I really try to look at it with both sides
it is so rare that one kicks in a door raid style vs a knock on the door OH wrong house sorry kinda thing
I guess I get back to the question if this starts happening on home raids more often how do you think this will make you think dif than you are now ? or wont it
if my door gets kicked in and I hear POLICE GET DOWN
I might tend to get down
but if it gets worse I might not want to get down
since odds of a home invasion or police kicking in my door are rare its something I think about and the way I handle it might start to go to protect myself first no matter who !
My situation. No reason on God’s earth why LE would be kicking in my door. Therefor if it were to seem that this scenario was actually playing out I would be attempting to launch my share of lead in the direction of the threat due to my assumption that it was an invasion. If it were in fact LE they would obviously have the wrong address and in all likelihood a few of my brothers would be hurt and I would be dead.
There was a fair amount of this kind of activity going on in Texas over past few years. Not dressed as tactical teams, but in uniforms. Also people in uniforms stopping people in mocked up patrol cars.
Well that presents a problem. There was a time on the local news in Texas when they were advising women that, if a patrol car turned the overhead lights on behind them in traffic, they should NOT stop, but proceed to a safe, well lit, populated area before stopping.
Then driving to a well lit heavily populated area might be your only choice. Either way your options aren’t good. A criminal impersonating a LEO puts the victim in a lose/lose situation.
Unfortunately LE is not too big on the idea of people not immediately stopping for them. They tend to consider that a “pursuit”. Something they get a little hot under the collar about…
+1. The last time I was stopped I was at the intersection of two narrow streets; stopping there would’ve blocked that intersection solid. I chose to - very slowly and with turn signal on - make a turn on intersection and stop at the gas station. This consideration for fellow motorists certainly didn’t score any major points with the officer.
it’s very hard to strike a good balance and unfortunately i think is has swung too far away from protecting the average citizen’s rights. The LE has the legal right to kick in a door without announcing themselves, and i’m just waiting to hear of some LEO that gets killed, when they enter a house unannounced, surprise an innocent person who responds to having his door shattered, by firing.
in the middle of the night, you wake up from a sound sleep, hearing your front door being knocked down, with no warning or advance notice. Even LEO’s (off duty) are going to respond in an defensive/aggressive manner.
The guy two doors down from us had a home invasion about 6 wks. ago. With all the family home in the middle of the night, he was lucky he only lost some possessions.
