Holster help...

Wondering if you guys can help me out. I am looking for the following in an IWB holster for my Glocks.

-Must be leather IWB
-Need 2 points of securement (think VM 2)
-I need a moisture barrier in the thing!!!

If Sparks would put one in the VM 2 I would be in heaven, but they wont-I have asked…

They do make a Heritage LTD which has EVERYTHING I am looking for, but sadly it is only patterned for the 1911 at this time…

IWB kydex does not work for me, at least not yet. I have tried Tuckers Silent Thunder, Raven Phantom, and Comp Tac stuff. It just dosent “mold” to my 4oclock like a good leather IWB…

I did find something by Garrity, that has all these features, but I have read horror stories about actually taking delivery of his rigs due to his schedule.

So…

Any suggestions on who I may be missing that could satisfy all these items?

I need to find a summer IWB. I sweat like a…well I am sure you get the point. Tired of pulling my pistol out of my VM2 after 1/2 day of wearing it and having “dew” on the slide on my body side.

Thanks for any help!

these are very well made holsters and affordable. www.bulldogleathercompany.com

I’m a big fan of Greg Kramer’s horsehide for a leather holster.

I carry a Glock 19 in one of his #3 IWB’s daily.

Looks like a great setup, problem is I will blow right thru my horsehide VM2 in the summer with no problems.

I am really looking for someone who places a moisture barrier on the body side of the holster.

Hmmm…maybe a market I can explore since there seem to be VERY few of these options avail…

Thanks for the replys so far!

I honestly can’t see you blowing one of Kramer’s horsehide’s out in a season…they’re built damn tough.

No pics of the one I have for the G19, but here are some SIG and 1911 pics…

Probably bad choice of terminology on my part, but what I meant by “blow thru” my VM 2, I was refering to my ability to sweat thru the horsehide leather and on to the slide. It will be a long time before I destroy my leather…

Thanks for the replies, and nice pics!

Never mind…should have read all of your post about Garrity.

Another option for you is FIST Holsters.

They will make a hybrid leather/kydex holster where the kydex forms the interior and the leather forms the exterior. It is a pricy option, but worth investigating.

FIST Hybrid series

Another Kramer user. Great stuff. They’ll hold up for you, and protect your gun.

i feel ya on the sweating thru leather issue, esp in the summer…
on the kydex side, i’ve tried a Phantom IWB and it was too big, OWB it was great obviously.

check out Peters Custom Holsters, the HoldFast in particular. it’s what my IWB EDC G19 w/ X300 rides in. very low profile and fits great at my 3 and 4 oclock position depending on what i’m wearing. you can even get your preferred cant if i’m not mistaken…

Great feedback guys, thanks so much.I will look into Peters once I get back to my computer.

What is everyones take on Fist holsters? Good stuff or not?

Thanks!

Drew

KD Gunleather has a moisture barrier on their IWB leather holsters. To me all it was was a piece of suede that was glued to the outside of the leather. Maybe suede has better sweat rejection/absorption properties than straight leather does.

The quality of the one I had was top notch on it and it was very comfortable.

is it possible to chemically treat a current holster to make a moisture barrier?

or what about adding a surface layer on the back like paint or a sheet that is basically heavy duty saran-wrap?

I acutally thought about that, but not sure if they make an actual product for “water proofing” leather.

Any thoughts?

I sweat like a pig, honestly.

I’ve not had a problem with the Kramer Horsehide IWB’s over VA summers with high humidity.

Interesting…

I usually will have mine on me for 12-15 hrs per day. How about you, and you never sweat thru it???

Generally 10 or 12 hours a day, and I’ve not seen it sweat through.

I have seen some condensation on the pistol, but it’s been a real non issue.

That is also one of the reason’s I use a Glock during the summer especially.

how about a El paso summer cruiser? General Patton carried his peacemaker in their leather!

At the expense of being at the edge of my lane-is the moisture barrier really a show stopper? Why not just buy the Kramer as their delivery times are measured in weeks, not months and just wipe the gun down on a nightly basis?

After all, the gun is a tool and tools that get used have marks, scratches and even a bit of rust/discloration from time to time.

YMMV greatly,

Personally, I just wear a longer T-shirt (undershirt) tucked in past my IWB holster. It may seem counter intuitive, but I seem to stay cooler wearing two layers. Granted, the hottest it gets here in the summer is 98-102 with relatively low humidity, but even when I go south a bit where it’s 105 or more, I still wear the t-shirt under a polo or button up shirt. Keeps the moisture away from the leather and the gun. I carry Kirkpatrick holsters for my 1911 and my Glock. Pretty decent prices and have been stable for quite a while. Make sure to get one with a higher inside flap to keep the back end of the gun off your hide as well. (VM2 and the Kirkpatrick have these and others are including this more and more).

You could also try rubbing it down with beeswax or saddle wax, but that’ll get kinda messy for the inside of your cloths. (works on saddles great for moisture)
