Hogu Stock opinions

Hey guys. I am looking into getting a 12" LOP hogue overrubber stock for my mossberg 590a1 and wanted to see what the thoughts were from those who own or have handled them.

Thanks!

I have the 12" Hogue stocks on a pair of Rem 870 Express guns. These are backup HD guns for me.

I like the 12" LOP but maybe could go 12.5, or maybe 12.75. Haven’t tried anything between 12" and the OEM 14". (I am not small …5’10" tall and a 35" shirt sleeve length.) The OEM 14" LOP was simply too long for me to allow quickly mounting the gun in a squared-up fighting stance.

Drop on the Hogue seems just about right for me for a bead sight (what I have on both guns) but might be too low for use with rifle-type sights or ghost rings. Would definitely be too low for a red dot sight IMO.

The stocks seem sturdy, and were easy to install.

I haven’t compared the recoil pads on the Hogues to anything else, so I can’t give you an informed opinion of how they compare to other pads.

That definetly gives me more to think about. I do currently run ghost ring sights.

I’m the same size as you 5’10" and mostly want it to be more maneuverable and easier to shoot squared up also. + my wife’s arms are not long enough to work the pump if on her shoulder and she is not tiny at 5’7"

I responded on the other board, but I’ll throw something in here too.
The GRS is going to depend on you, your head and neck geometry, and your particular shooting position. I ran the factory GRS with a 12" Hogue and didn’t have any problem. But I’m several inches taller than you, and it may just have been my shooting position.
As far as running the Aimpoint, I ran one on an 870 with a short LOP stock too and didn’t have any problem. Keep in mind that you won’t have to have the perfect cheek weld to shoot with that too, as the optic will let your head move off the stock some.
