HMC Silver Nickel cases

Did a search and didn’t come up with anything;

Has anyone reloaded using the HMC silver nickel cases?

If so, how’d they work?

Are you referring to the zinc coated steel casings?

According to Hornaday, they are nickel plated cases.

Gotcha,

I was under the assumption that these were the same casings as the Silver Bear line of ammunition by Barnaul, which I believe is zinc coated steel casings.

A couple of the cases of Hornady Tap Practice are HMC headstamped silvery colored steel cases. I assumed it was zinc but they could be nickel plated. Regular nickel plated brass .223 (Rem?) I’ve reloaded. I haven’t really tried reloading steel.

Sorry for the randomness.

from what i understand you cant reload steel cases.

The Hornady TAP practice rounds do use zinc coated steel cases, and i’ve herd that baurnaul made them for hornady.

I do not reload it but I have been told that nickel plated cases can be reloaded but are usually more brittle then plain brass. So you may see neck splits more frequently. I have heard that sometimes the nickel will flake off and can even scratch carbide dies. I think that new nickel brass would be good to go, but would really keep an eye on brass that has been fired once or more.
