HK91 port buffer removal?

hey guys,

recently picked up an '81 HK91.

came with a port buffer installed…but whoever put it on there didn’t put it in the right spot. rubber pad of the port buffer should have been placed over the rear flange of the ejection port. instead the pad is sitting behind the metal flange of the ejection port.

did a few google searches but nothing specific.

tried to use an old credit card to slip under the port buffer to get it off without damaging the finish. no good. doesn’t even budge.

any ideas?

thx.

Next step is to try a plastic putty knife. I hope it isn’t corroded under there.

finally got it off. slipped an old credit card under the tabs on opposite side of the ejection port. carefully lifted the port buffer tabs with a small screwdriver. came off.

some wear underneath.

Why do you give a shit about minor scratches when removing the buffer? It is a battle rifle not a Tiffany Lamp.
