I enjoyed some range time this weekend with my Gen 3 & 4 G19. Even though I’m a long time G19 user, after a few BTF (usual occurrence) with each gun using inexpensive 115r training ammo, I starting thinking about alternatives. I spent a little time at my local gun store examining the SIG 320 and the HK VP9. For my hands, the VP9 appears to be an excellent firearm but will not conceal as well as the venerable G19. So, when the VP9c or compact model comes out in the future, I may take a serious look at considering a switch for my primary CCW/EDC choice. Anybody else hoping that HK follows it usual path of a compact model which follows the release of a full size model?

I am. I’ve been hoping for a compact version of the PPQ for a couple if years … Love that PPQ. Instead Walther brought out a full size version. Sheesh. Now I’m hoping that HK has a better read on the US market than Walther and goes the the compact route. I like my VP9 as well as my PPQ.
The P320 is taking over gunstores around here and is blowing up in popularity because of its accuracy, reliability, modularity and great trigger. It comes in 3 sizes and 4 flavors.
It is hard for me to get past SIG’s last 10 years of dumping junk guns on the market. I am cautiously optimistic that they may have turned over a new leaf.In the 90s and early 00s I LOOOVED Sig.
Yes, ever-tone deaf HK would be able to sell quite a few VPks. Unfortunately the ya-hoos who drift through gun stores would complain that it didn’t hold as many as the over-sprung, over stuffed Glock mags (no one seems to care that they stuff two more bullets in the same length mags as their competitors, just like Pro-mag). Even thought the VP9K would have proper ejection, and mags designed for reliability rather than paper specs, people would still prefer the warm golden shower of brass to the face that is Glock perfection.
Keep talking like that Greg and I’ll have to run out and buy a HK P2000 LEM.

I’m still skeptical of the Sig 320 due to:
- full on retardery of Sig Sauer USA for a long time with poor quality control and guns that were full on Tactical Bubba or just plain stupid, enough so that I wouldn’t want to be an early adopter with one of these things; I mean have they fixed the stupid over at Sig now?
- magazines that are near $40…ridiculous; OK you’ll probably only save a few bucks getting on the HK mags
- I freakin’ hate that ridiculously high bore axis in a striker fired gun…I mean WTF? Yes I know that bore axis is not all there is to it, but sorry, all else being equal, yes, a lower bore axis is better due to obvious things, like the laws of physics; were they too lazy to come up with a more optimized frame to take advantage of the striker design and raise that dumb ass beaver tail up some? if anything that ridiculously placed beavertail actually prevents one from getting as high a grip on the backstrap of the gun as possible!
- a trigger with a close to 8 lb pull is not so great to me
I held that new HK compact. It was quite weird and kinda fat and stubby. A true 3 finger gun that actually felt pretty good. I was astonished I only got three fingers on it but it felt good. Strange and possible brilliant. But If Im giving up size, I prefer to give up width and I am a fan of the single stack revolution. So if its not my P30LEM light, its going to be my shield.
But they did make something unique and Im sure its HK quality.
What are some of the bad handguns? Their 1911 series? I don’t pay much attention to them. What else to they move a ton of outside of the P22X Series, the SP’s and now the P250’s and 320’s?

I’m hoping for a VP9L first and a VP9sk companion to follow. 
I don’t want to derail the thread about recent allegations of Sig Sauer USA QC issues, but there have been problems with their 1911, the p938, the mosquito, sig 556, and yes even with some of the p22x series. You can do a search on “what happened to sig quality” on google, and also go to sig talk. I don’t think it is controversial to state that quality has noticeably gone down since the days of the German made Sig Sauers, when Sigs were on the pinnacle of quality. Many will argue that the decline started when Ron Cohen the general manager of Kimber (the poster child of horrible quality control) went to SigSauer to take charge as president/CEO and a quality haircut occurred in order to make the company more profitable (along with all sorts of goofy iterations like their rainbow guns, etc). Hopefully the p320 will be a successful in rebuilding the brand name some. I have to say that I’m honestly surprised at how many shooters with a good reputation like the gun so far, and I think that bodes very well.
I would rather have the VP45 and the VP9L come out first, but I am probably in the minority there.
Yikes, that Kimber connection IS scary. I also hope they get and keep their s*** together.
Let’s just hope HK doesn’t do something stupid, and somehow hire that guy to bring their profits up to rescue the company from their financial troubles (knock on wood).
As much as I like the VP9 something just always draws me back to the LEM. I can’t think of anything I would take over a P2000. It’s hard to describe, but it’s sort of like driving a manual transmission car. You just feel the car more; it’s something you can’t really put in words. I don’t really like car - gun analogies, but in this case I can’t think of another way to say it.
I won’t be leaving the VP9 since I have no way of ever getting another if I’d want it. And new shooters always like it, so I keep it as a fun gun. If they came out with a compact size I’d have to jump on it.
I don’t really see the allure to long slide variants, but that’s just me.

Honestly, I don’t understand H&K’s financial troubles. They have .gov contracts, they charge an arm and a leg for their goods…wtf is their deal? Maybe if they lowered their profit margins a smidgen (i.e. VP9 and it’s popularity b/c the regular guy now wants an H&K), they would probably sell a shit ton. Secondly your love for the P2000 is well understood and I share the same love for my USPc .45 that I converted to a sort of CT model.
I think they should go with VP9sk first then L second. But H&K R&D’s their guns for quite some time before putting them on the market, so who knows when and if we’ll see the next VP9 variation. Possibly a tactical model will be soon.
I think their owner has been siphoning all the profits into his (their) pockets.
VP9>VP9sk>VP9L>VP40>VP45.
For some reason whenever I go to HKparts.net and you click on the handguns link and scroll to the VP9- added there is a VP40.
Not too sure if they’re dropping hints that HK is coming out with a .40 or what, but it has me wondering forever.
No room for a VP9k in your world? Why all the prejudice against P2000-sized guns and favor towards P2000sk-sized guns?
The Glock 26 doesn’t outsell the G19, but based on a lot of comments here, it sounds like more people would prefer the 10-round SK size vs a 13-round K size. Blows my mind…
