I may have the opportunity to pick up a slightly used model with two mags and adjustable night sights for $825 + tax.
I love my USP .40C and am very tempted by this pistol and happen to have the money for it right now. Aside from HK being the best thing ever, what do the minds here at M4C think about the .45T and is this a deal I should not let pass me by?
I seem to remember a thread about thousands and thousands of rounds through an HK 45, but can’t seem to find it. If I’m not mistaken then it was a ridiculous round count on the gun with great results.
A couple other things the USP 45T has are a match trigger with trigger stop and the O-ring on the barrel. Truly a great setup. I have a USP Elite in 9mm, which has the match trigger, and it has a great feel to it.
My only “problem” with the full-size USP guns is the brick-like grip, and I have big hands. The compacts do feel better but I could not get use to the full-size guns, which is why I have the newer model now.
If the grip is good for you, go for it. I did a check on riverofguns and the deal you are getting was the best price I found.
I’ve had a USP 45 Tactical for about 12 years now. It is more a collector gun than a regular shooter so I don’t have thousands of rounds through it. That said, my impressions of it has been that it is a reliable and robust gun. The SA trigger is as good as most 1911s and really makes you want to carry it cocked and locked. Accuracy is awesome right up there as well as most 1911s. My only issues with the gun (and maybe why it is more of a safe queen than say my M&P45) is that first and foremost, the grip is huge! It feels more like hanging onto a 2x4 than a pistol grip, and this is coming from a guy who thinks the Beretta M9 has a comfortable grip. The other issue is that while the SA trigger is awesome, the DA trigger is very heavy and stacks at the end. This means that the difference between DA and SA is very great. You have to crank on the trigger to get the DA shot off and then the SA trigger is light as a feather which makes the transition more difficult. As mentioned, with the trigger you may want to consider carrying it hammer back and safety on, but then you can run into the issue where an over aggressive disengagement of the safety can cause the pistol to decock. I guess ultimately this gripe is a training issue that can be overcome, but still something to overcome.
I do think for a general pistol, the HK45 is superior, but if you have the intent to run a can, want a match grade SA trigger and adjustable sights, or just want a pistol that is a little different, then the USP 45 Tactical might be a good choice.
NICE! I have wondered if those triggers were worth anything. How does the size change from the full sized USP to the tactical? Have you carried the tactical before?
The USP45 tactical frame and slide are the same as with the standard USP45. Only the barrel length is longer by 2 cm. I have never carried my USP45 Tactical other than at the range. Due to the taller sights, the availability of holsters is reduced versus the standard USP45.
I did not pick up the pistol. It is available to me, but I’m about to have another expense come up that is going to keep me from having the cash to fund the purchase.
It works well. If you want to adjust it to dead stop at point where sear release, you must do adjustment with fully loaded magazine inserted in pistol. Obviously this require very careful work, unless mag is full of dummies or snap caps.
