Are these magazines really the best or is it hype?![]()
They work very well in SA80A2s
. Theyâre pretty much hype in ARs.
Magpul PMAGs if they fit your lower correctly are about the best you can do. USGI mags are still very good but I prefer them with Magpul followers.
HK mags in very fast cycling ARs will very quickly start not locking the bolt back when they run empty. Iâve had this occur in less than 500 rounds on 1 HK mag with my 10" LMT.
Like Robb said PMAG all the way man. You can get 2 or 3 for the price of one HK mag.
Starting to get some feedback from elsewhere about these mags failing during some intensive carbine training. Is it true you canât get replacemnt springs for these either? If thatâs true I wouldnât own one. So MagPulâs the way to go these days?
HKâs stance on the issue is that magazines are a disposable item so the spring is proprietary. One wears out and/or breaks you just purchase another one. Quite a feat at an average of $50.00 a pop.
As mentioned above, the PMAG is a much better value and with that value much more durable also. They are all I will purchase now. Eventhough I bought two HK mags from DSG Arms when they had them for $25.00 a piece. Still, PMAGs are the hot ticket as far as magazines go. You will not regret purchasing some, then more.
Thank you all. I will go ahead and pick up a few PMags now and if the election starts to go South Iâll stockpile a bunch.
NotâŚ
The irony is, that in the HK mag owners manual, it states under the trouble shooting section that the corrective action for cetain issues is to replace the spring. But, as mentioned, they dont sell the springs. I also find it just funny that a magazine has a multipage owners manualâŚ
I used HK mags in the sandbox. They were obviously more durable than the aluminum USGI magazines, but every damn magazine we had would catch the lip of the brass while feeding/unloading the magazine. This didnât always create feeding problems while firing but it did often enough for me to ditch the HK mags and go back to USGI mags.
Iâve since swooped up some PMAGs and have been nothing but impressed by their smooth feeding.
Same here.
I couldnât justify the weight of the HK mags. I didnât see that they were THAT good.
If you are buying these mags out of pocket then I would just upgrade good USGI mags (check the feed lips) with Magpul followers. When the springs wear out replace them with chrome silica springs or the CMMG springs. This is what I did.
Going forward, I would buy the PMags especially for civilian or LEO purposes. As a .mil guy I like to blend in so I use mags that look the same as everybody elses.
I cannot justify the cost of HK mags given that there are better choices for almost 1/3rd the price.
Now that is funny.![]()
From Larry Vickers:
âLet me jump in here and let everyone know I agree with Pat 100% on the HK M16 mags - they have several fleas, all of which are fixable, and I have voiced this to HK several times - donât know when or if they will fix them; so far no joy - until further notice I do not use or recommend them.â
From Pat Rogers:
âA metric handful of HK mags bit the dust and were promptly crushed and discarded. At one time I thought they were viable, but there are more and more issues surfacing with themâfeeding issues, something that has resurfacedâŚâ
Where is the best place to buy PMAGs?
Not to drag this thread out too much but what about the CProuducts mags that have the orange MagPul followers?
We sell PMAGS for $13.50 apiece when you buy QTYâs of 10 or more at a time.

CProducts has been to hit or miss as far as quality and customer service. Whereas Magpul has the quality, industry leading customer service, and durability that no USGI style magazine can match as evidenced by the torture test Magpul has put them through and more so the torture test owners are performing on them.
Be very careful and pick and choose whoâs word you take when you get your info from that âOtherâ source;)
Agreed! Cprod is one of the brands of mags that is specifically banned from my supply. There are some good ones out there, and some bad ones. I donât have time to determine which is which so I stick to USGI mags and Pmags now.
I was running HK mags in early 2002 and they were great for a while. One unit did some extensive testing on the HK magazines and they came out way on top. As the magazines experienced continued use and wear/tear, problems started to surface. It probably took 2-3 years before anyone noticed issues with the HK magaznes.
As a side note, HK magazines use standard USGI type springs and a recent upgrade test used the extra power âredâ springs from SAW.
Fast forward to now⌠PMags are getting rave reviews. Everyone thinks they are great. Theyâve been on the scene for, what, 9-10 months? Now look above and notice that the HK magazines didnât see any problems until they were a few years into service.
Iâm back to using USGI Colt and Okay magazines with the stock springs and green followers. I know what they do and donât do well. They have a history dating back to the late 1960s. The simplest PM will discover almost any issue youâll find on a USGI magazine and, when you find an issue, you throw it away and unwrap a new one. They are the lightest of all the magazines mentioned and they have the longestâand bestâtrack record. The HK mags crapped out and the PMags are so new we wonât really know for several years.
I have some the of the GEN II HK mags and they wonât work in any of the 10.5" I tested them with (6 total). ![]()
The PMAG is of course new and time will tell if they last, but the one thing I do know for sure. They work in 10.5âs. ![]()
