Higher priority for HD rifle: optic or light?

If your buddy had a basic AR15 for home defense with iron sights and a sling, which would you say is the bigger Priority?

A white light or red dot?

Red dot won’t do much good unless you can identify the threat which can be pretty hard to do in low light without illumination.

Light. Can’t shoot what you can’t see. And definitely should not shoot what you cannot identify.

Light. There must be an echo in here.

Light Light Light Light

Irons will work well with a light, red dot without light in a dark room, ehhhh, not so much.

Optic.

Just kidding. Light is the obvious answer by far.

Light for sure

I would say if your “buddy” is asking this in regards to setting up an AR, I question how well said buddy can run/maneuver the AR. If there is any doubt and funds are an issue, I might address that even before the light.

Light for intruder. Red dot for daughter sneaking home after curfew.

Get the best of both worlds, an ir light… That way you have a “light” and the bg gets to see a red dot optic from his part. Duh. Simple solution.

I’m going to agree with everyone else. Light is the obvious choice here. Can’t (shouldn’t) shoot what you can’t see.

I have to agree with everyone else and say light.

You need to be able to identify that the threat is in fact a threat.

So a light is a must.

A Slide fire stock will help light up area!! Kidding, light is top priority for any home defense weapon. If I grab pistol (w/light) to check bump in the night, I grab a handheld light as well.

13 replies to this??? Really? Everyone agrees the light is top priority… the horse is thoroughly beaten, and I’m i’m tired of seeing this as to the top thread after clicking “new posts”

You gotta have a light man.

Well you are not helping by putting at the top again.

Beside only 14 replies out of 68,000 members isn’t exactly beating it to death.

15 out of 68,000.
A light for HD is much more important than a site unless you’re shooting at zombies at a great distance from your home.

I was attempting to stop the regurgitating of the same answer. and 2 replies out of 1,000,000 members to this particular question is 1 TOO MANY.

Asked and answered.

Which is a higher priority ammo or a bipod for a home defense rifle?

A few folks look like they’re doing all they can to get into “general Discussion”. lol
