Well, climbing back into the AR-15 world after purchasing my first and only Colt in 1995, I have been asleep as to what has been going on out there. Holy crap! I just got an AR-15 specific catalog from Brownells and all I can say is: WOW! The choices are endless - which brings me to my question: I noticed Brownells offering “High Standard” lowers and uppers, (and perhaps some other parts). Is this the same High Standard of days past and is there a consensus on their quality?
Hi! I’ve been trolling here awhile, and also have yet to see much info on High Standard quality etc… The point here is that I recently purchased one of their lowers and should be getting a parts kit in from RB Precision this coming week. I will let you know at least how the lower build goes. On a side note, I tried fitting a PMAG in the magazine well (it fits fine), but without the catch, it’s hard to say if it drops free or not. (Not that you asked, but people getting lowers wonder about mag fitment given the popularity of non-USGI mags (Lancer, PMAGS). Another small article I found was on GunBlast.com, back in '05, where the author reviews a complete rifle, although it was nothing more than a typical magazine article cursory overview and limited shooting. He seemed to think favorably of the weapon.
Thanks for the reply - I have an Anvil Arms lower inbound, (not sure yet who forges it) and am not interested in another just yet, but spotted them in the catalog. I’ll be curious to see how your build comes out. Good luck with it - keep us posted.
