High Standard Mil-Spec series HSA-15

A friend of mine has acquired a High Standard Mil-Spec series HSA-15.

He got it from a relative that won it in a raffle. The relative had absolutely no idea what to do with an AR style rifle, so he gave it to my friend to sell for him.

I had never even heard of the High Standard line of AR’s before today, and a Google and Yahoo search gets me nothing but a couple articles telling me that it another AR clone that, “looks real nice and shoots real good”.

That doesn’t do it for me.

High Standard AR’s are not on “The Chart”.:frowning:

I need to know the ‘Specs’.

The company claims via the guns name, to be mil-spec, but it has a 1x9" twist… which leads me to wonder about other features that we would not consider to e mil-spec.

I will get to examine this gun on Monday.

Anybody know anything about High Standard AR’s?

Generally speaking, High Standards are pieces of junk. Now as for their AR’s I have never heard of them so I don’t know if they are any good. If they are like their other firearms however…it will be a large hunk of trash.

just to make it clear this applies to the “modern” line of high standard guns. The .22 pistols from the 1960s and earlier are very good guns.

My old company in Iraq had bought a few prior to them going with the S&W M4geries.

Sample size 10 - they grouped fine with M855, and no major problems with them (very very low round counts on each gun = less than1K)

I would not buy one myself, but other than the 1:9 heavier 16" barrel, they did not seem like a poor gun.

I remember when these first hit the market a few years ago.

Indications were that the components were largely CMT/Stag sourced.

I kept trying to find out if the bores were chrome-lined, but never got a definite answer.

Thanks all…

Any way you look at it, a free AR is better than none at all!

He was thinking he might get $900 for it. Comes with 200 rounds of PMC ammo.

I’m going to make an offer on the ammo.

I saw one at a show a few months back. Fit and finish looked better than many. How it actually shoots or will hold up I don’t know, but it looked real good. Better than some “big name” AR’s there.

Well guess what…

I got a chance to spend a few hours today with the carbine in question.

M4 feed cuts were identical to my LMT M4.

Gas key was VERY staked.

Fit and finish were better than my CMMG, LMT, and Bushmaster. A slight blemish was on the left side of the lower near the selector switch that the owner will never even notice.

Trigger was as good as any stock trigger I’ve used.

Took 9 rounds to zero it.

Ammo used was PMC M193.

Accuracy was good, 3 MOA with an EO Tech, when shooting at a target without a visible aiming point (blank IPSC target).

Ejected cases fell into a nice neat little pile 2 yards out and 45 degrees forward of the shooter, with out a mark of blemish.

This will not be a ‘working gun’, will only be used for light recreational purposes, so I suggested he buy it, as there ARE NO AR’s for sale at any dealer in my area. Cost was $700 with 1 mag and 200 rounds of M193.

I won’t vouch for the whole High Standard line, but this one works just fine.

We will wring it out more in late December.
