I graduated High School three decades ago (that’s the Triassic Era for most of you). Yep - disco, Jimmy Carter, Love Canal, the Ford Pinto, leisure suits, and all that stuff. Left for Basic Training five days after graduation and never looked back.
Never went back for any of my High School reunions and kind of wondered how everyone ended up. I kind of imagined all the guys as overweight and balding and the girls as, well, overweight and not balding.
Any of you folks in your 30’s and up go to your reunion and have a good time, or was it kind of anticlimactic?
Went to my 20th renuion this summer and IT WAS A BLAST!!! Man I had loads of fun. Some of the guys didnt change, a lot are bald and or fat, and one guy, who was tiny in HS had a case of late onset puberty and shot up to about 6’2". As for the women, most if not all aged well and quite a few were like fine wines. They just got better with age.
I got talked into going to my 15th eight years ago and well it was not anything like I expected. My friends who I lost touch with are gone three had died of various reasons (car crash, health, one crazy wife) but in all it seemed like it was the “in crowd” just having another get together. But I also had a large gradutating class 478 students it was hard to know everyone.
My 30th reunion was this year and I wasn’t planning to go. I’ve always kept in touch with most of the friends I ran with. However I got a letter from one of the few close friends that I had lost touch with over the years asking if I was going. Between the desire to see him and his twin brother, and the urging of my wife, I went.
Surprisingly I had a good time. It was interesting that those who would not have spoken to me 30+ years ago would talk for 15-20 minutes. Go figure. Anyway I was glad that I went.
i would run into a few folks now and then and catch up a bit
if I went back to where I went to school for a visit to the parents house I would see a bunch of them ? most still have the same haircut same thoughts still in HS !
yet others moved on went ahead and did things
so like others I kept in touch with a few and most others ? oh well if I run into them ?
I have thought of going to my 30th though just to laugh at it all
My 25th is this coming year. I’ve been thinking about it but it is 2500 miles away across the country so the chance is not great. I have not been since my 10th. I went to the 5th and 10th HS reunions. They were fun. I was in no way part of any “in” group in HS – being on the math team and in the band made sure of that – but it was interesting to talk to the other kids who were more likely to talk to me then than they were during HS.
The few friends that were worth keeping from HS I keep in contact with somewhat anyway so I don’t need a reunion for that.
I was there with you man, graduated in ‘77! We had a 10, 20 and 25 year reunion and I wouldn’t have missed any of them. It’s an interesting study in genetics too, the smokin’ hot girls from school all had smokin’ hot daughters too! Appropriate mea culpas to follow.
I went to my class’ 20th reunion in 2005. I was a bit hesitant about it but once I got there I had a really great time. I’m looking forward to our 25th.
I missed my 10th because of some personal issues at the time , and regret missing it. My 20th is coming up soon and I am looking forward to going. I don’t expect alot, but there are some that I have lost contact with and look forward to seeing again.
We had our 20 last year (07) and while I didn’t go to the reunion, I agreed to go out with a few of my fellow grads the night before for casual drinks. My wife was my high-school sweetheart and she’s gone to all the reunions by herself because, as I always say, I didn’t like most of the assholes when I went to school with them, what makes them think I’d like them now?
Careful! I may be old, but that just means I have had a lot longer to learn the dirty tricks. Remember, if a man is too old to fight you, he’ll just have to kill you.
