I’m looking for a mount for my flat top AR, something along the lines of the LaRue Tactical SPRE, but cheaper…much cheaper. I have some Weaver rings I can use with a riser, but I like the look of the riser and rings in one package.
Like dway said, the Burris PEPR will work, you can get it from Midway or SWFA (www.swfa.com). The PEPR have picatinny rail on the top half of the rings.
I use the SWFA SSALT (something like that), which is almost identical to the Burris except it doesn’t have the picatinny on the top half of the rings.
Solid mount, no frill, no flash but low price. I think I paid around $50.
Just remember that arguably the biggest benefit to the one piece glass mounts is the fact that on most models they are equipped w. a QD system and on the good quality mounts like ADM, Bobro and Larue, they all return to zero extremely well, time after time. The cheaper you go…the more you might lose the inherit benefits of using a one piece mount.
That is a great review buddy…I am completely sold on ADM, over the last cpl. yrs. I have ended up w. a pair of recon-x mounts, an AD-B2 w. socom riser for my T-1, an AD-BP mount for my bipod, and last and fitting a TD stubby w. the ADM lever. Each and every item I own from them has been absolutely fantastic, and b/t the recon x mounts and the T-1 mount, I prob have 100-200 removals and than back again…and not so much as once did I ever lose the zero on the scopes or the t-1.
eta…have you seen that nugget of a weaponlight mount they did in conjunct w. Vltor…basically just the vfg and TD. Kinda pricey but if your an ADM hoe anyway, might as well keep it in the family:D
I know it’s not one piece, but because I had a good set of rings already (Warne), I brought a LaRue riser and used that, so I have QD and return to zero capability.
I was playing around at the range a few weeks ago with a Burris PEPR and Burris XTR rings. I shot 5-shots, removed the mount, remounted it, and shot 5-shots. I did this 4 times and did not notice any significant impact change BUT I used the Wheeler FAT Torque Wrench to torque the mounts each time I installed them.
I think torquing the mounts each time will be the key. You could try limiting the torque by just tightening them with 2-fingers and a nut driver each time you install them or some other way to repeat the tightness? Quality QD mounts repeat their tightness with their levers.
