This Survey is for a college research methods class in Criminology. I had to create a 10 question survey about anything in the world. I just have to show my teacher that I made one and had people take it. That’s where it ends, simple as that. So I appreciate anyone willing to help. Feel free to be funny with comments or answers! Thanks!
First off, to be statistically valid, surveys should be randomized and should occur in real time. If you require a participant to take independent action to complete your survey, you will get inaccurate results as you will only capture the really committed partisans at either side. If you go to “www.hotdog.com” and ask if people like hotdogs and why hotdogs are better than hamburgers, you are going to get skewed results. This is why respected surveys are done via phone and not on websites.
Secondly, a voluntary survey should have use guidelines and informed disclosure. Adhering to these standard academic practices may boost participation in your survey. Off the top of my head:
What personal information is being captured? Are the responses linked to M4 screen names?
How long will the data be preserved? Where will it be preserved?
How will the data be used? and by whom?
If you are doing a survey for a college project you should be using established protocols if you want a rigorous survey. And what kind of college project asks about “the zombie apocalypse”. Seriously?
Sorry, I should have explained the purpose behind this survey. The point is, there is no point. It’s for my Research Methods class in Criminology. We had to use Survey Monkey to create a 10 question survey about anything in the world. I could have polled favorite ice cream flavors if I had wanted. But I chose random gun questions cause I love firearms. I just have to show my professor that I made up a survey and had people take it. Simple as that. It won’t be used for anything else.
