Help with midlength barrel selection

What are my options for a lightweight mid-length chrome lined 4150 or CMV barrel with a 1/7 twist and 5.56 chamber?

So far I have:
CMMG
GTS “Operator”

I know that BCM and Sabre Defence also offer midlength barrels, but they are government profiles, and out of stock. Can anyone else help me, right now it seems like my only option is CMMG and I’ve heard that they may be using bad steel and/or bad chamber dimensions. Does anyone have any 1st hand information about the CMMG stuff?

I’ve used CMMG barrels with great success. Their taper pins are soft, they mushroom upon removal. On the last 4 builds I’ve for customers I used 3 CMMG 18" SPR midlength barrels and 1 CMMG 16" Gov’t profile midlength barrel. I milled down the FSBs on all of them to fit under 3 DD 12" Lite Rails and 1 JP 12" VTAC tube. On all I replaced the taper pins with either DPMS or Colt pins. Chambers were fine all were chrome lined, the 18" were 1x8 twist and the 16" was 1x7.

So Ned’s reamer didn’t remove any metal?

Ditto on the CMMG sentiment expressed above. I own a CMMG mid-length and its excellent.

Sabre Defense makes a mid-length barrel…though I don’t know if it’s available separate or only in the form of a complete upper.

I’m sold on Sabre…great products.

ETA: You can buy Sabre barrels alone.

It probably would just as it does on Colts and LMTs as well. I don’t use it unless the rifle just doesn’t run well and has bad extraction or unexplainable feeding problems not remedied any other way. Like I’ve said earlier, I have a few ARs that wouldn’t run on Wolf but after reaming now do.

I just bought a CMMG lightwieght middy barrel for a build.

IIRC, CMMG is the only one offering a lightwieght middy chromed barrel right now. The Sabre is a govt profile.

I also consider Denny’s “operator” barrel to be a lightweight profile, albiet a proprietary one. Unfortunately he is out of stock.

The operator is more of a medium weight profile.

I’ve got a CMMG 16" mid govt. weight and a GTS recon. Both are great shooters. Though the GTS has a wylde chamber instead of 5.56.

So it looks like my options are CMMG and CMMG. That narrows it down, thanks for the help guys!

http://www.pkfirearms.com/store/get_items.aspx?type=0&term=61&pg=4 PK has the Sabre listed, they pull them off the site when out of stock. I have the Sabre mid barrel,it’s very good.

For my future midlength build project I would pick the Sabre Defence government profile barrel because they use Mil-spec barrel material.

Talon Arms and Rainier Arms also sells them.

In this thread that I started HERE, I learned the Operator barrel is heavier than a govt. profile.

Thanks for all he replies and help. I went with the CMMG lightweight. The main goal of this rifle is lighter weight. I’m putting on a DD 9.0 and a Larue BUIS and that’s all for the upper. It’s going on a LMT lower.

This will make a nice rifle IMO.

I just put my upper together with the CMMG lightweight middy barrel. With standard middy hanguards, Stag lower with 6 pos stock annd YHM buis, my scale says it’s 6.4 lbs.

It’s not a precision scale, but it’s a fairly expensive digital bathrooom scale that show tenths. I weighed myself then myself + the carbine to get the measurement.

6.4 is pretty light.
