A while back someone posted the measurement in from the bottom and the size hole to drill so that this device could be used as a cleaning rod guide. I tried search, I can’t find the post, does anyone have this information?
Thanks for your reply. I have one of those. I like the other way because I can clamp the upper in a vise and hold it still. I have several uppers with optics and they are hard to manipulate on the bench. I have tried the link to hold the upper open and then put a vise block in the lower and clamp but the problem there is that solvent and such drips into the trigger area.
If youre set on using the claw, perhaps the easier way to do it is to just chop off the part that inserts into the upper, and just use your existing rod guide.
When cleaning my AR barrel, I usually clamp the upper to my big bench vise using a vise block such as this one and then use the cleaning rod guide shown above in post #2.
As suggested above, the OP could modify the nylon vise block he has to be like the one I use (though it would not be as strong as the aluminum version that I have) by cutting off all the extra parts that project into the upper.
Skip, Thanks! I will order one of those. Will that work with a Dewey or similar rod guide. I mean is there room in the upper to fit the guide rod above the aluminum block?
