Help with Base and Rings

All,
Been reading here for quite a while but I believe this is my first post. I’ve wanted to give the bolt gun a try for a while after shooting the M variants for many years in the Marines. I’ve started placing orders for some equipment to get started, here’s where it stands:

Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308
Bushnell Elite Tactical 10x40 Mil/Mil

I made those calls based on both my newness to the game and the realistic view that I’m really an AR shooter who wants to play a little at longer ranges. I’ll probably drop the hammer on a couple hundred rounds a year in this rig.

Given that, what should I be looking at for a base and rings to pull this together? I will have the opportunity to go out to 1,000 if I so desire.

Thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend TPS steel rings and mounts, I love the unique hold down torquing feature… if you want to go top shelf there is of course Badger.

Have a look at this video series, gives great insights to a precision budget build. I built my R700 SPS Tactical in .223 using lots of the recommendations in this series. It’s a quarter MOA shooter with the right hand load.

I’ll take a look. Thanks.

I went with TPS rings. Their good. Seekins are bad ass too. That’s what pappabear runs.

I’d just get a WARNE tactical steel base. (get the 20 MOA base if you’re able to shoot 1000… I had to go to a 20 MOA for my Bushnell Elite Tactical because I ran out of come up to get to 1000)

A Timney will be good money spent, of course.

I put about 1500 rounds through my SPS tactical over the last 12 months. Love shooting it.

Thanks again. I’ll check out the WARNE and TPS. Is there a particular vendor of trust or do they fall into “google for the best price” territory?

Echo Seekins as being fantastic. Also, if you really want to spend some dough, the Spuhr mounts are pretty sexy. Definitely not for eveyone’s wallet though.

I would recommend SWFA.com their customer service is outstanding. I can tell you now is with TPS “TSR” rings with your Bushnell go with “super lows” if you can get them, “lows” if you intend to get a larger objective later down the line. The 20 MOA base if you want to reach out to 1000 is a must.
I have a 10x42 SWFA SS on mine with a 0 MOA base and low rings., but my rifle is a .223 and I reach out to 700-800 max.

These are what you need:

Seekins 20moa base.
Badger rings.

The end.

Orkan has spoke.
As it is written, so shall it be done.

All the above mentioned products will work. I run a lot of seekins, but also have NF, WARNE, BADGER…

Don’t buy luepold hunting gun 2 piece rings and bases with DOVE tail. That makes me nervous. And get a 20 MOA BASE.

“HEY, BUYING MEAT FROM A GROCERY STORE MAKES ME NERVOUS.”

I’m a frog’s NIGHTMARE!

All,
Thanks for the great advice. I think you’ve got me tracking.

Now the wait for the brown truck can begin.

I love the new signature…

… yeah. I would have thought I’d be provided with some advertising information via PM, or something. I spent about an hour looking for it… but either I’m stupid or they have it well hidden.

Oh well.

Grant from G&R tactical is your contact. I’m pretty sure.
Good luck. I would think he would welcome the idea.

That being the case… I doubt it.

I talked bad about S&W M&P’s and had a thread locked. I’m sure he thinks I’m a fuckn idiot.

We had an issue , we got over it. He probably has already forgotten.

Similar Question for you all,

I have a set of Seekins rings for my Vortex PST FFP 4-16x50 and i’ve been looking at the Warne 1 piece, is there better options for the price?

Rem 700 aac is the rifle.
