Help with AR identification.

I am helping a friend of mine with his new (to him) AR.
He picked it up on consignment from a shop so he really has no idea about the pedigree and he is to new to ARs to know what to look for.

The lower is PWA however I can’t find any records of them building full guns before. It seems to have a quality LPK from what I can see and uses an H buffer.

The barrel is a 16 inch thicker under the handguards but not quite as heavy as some I have seen, with no M4 cut. It has a Knights RAS rail but I know this could have been added after the fact. And of course there are no M4 Ramps.

There were no marks on the exposed part of the barrel but it is possible the twist marking are under the HG. I am going to take them off when he brings it over this weekend.

I could find no forge marks on the upper however the bolt carrier was full auto and the bolt itself was marked MPF, which I am not familiar with. I have seen MP and MPC but never MPF.

I know this isn’t a lot of info but if anyone has any ideas what this could be I would appreciate them.

Thanks!

Other than that, I have no clue.

Check the lower’s serial number to see if it’s pre-ban. Then check if it’s forged or cast.

sounds like a custom gun… what color is the lower? those guys made pre- '86 machineguns, IIRC… so they were around for a while.

Is there a reference somewhere for the Serial numbers?

Lower is very dark. Upper is more of a Colt Gray.
It is a flattop I forgot to mention that.

He only paid 750 for it with a Meprolight Trijicon knockoff so he didn’t do to bad. I am going to help him out where I can and get him in touch with a real expert to really get him going. I also told him about this site so hopefully we will see him around soon.

A search for PWA will give you all kinds of history on the pre-ban lowers. Numbers less than 35222 are pre-ban. Sounds like your friend got a good deal either way.
