help with a barrel nut for troy ind. rail?

hi, i just received in the mail a troy ind. 9 inch battle rail, the model is srai-mrf-d9bt. when i took the rail out of the box, i realizeded i needed a triangle handguard cap. thats was no problem but when i looked at the barrel nut setting for the rail, i knew that it would not sit properly. i spent nearly an hour on the forum but i couldn’t find the correct barrel nut that would be compatible with this model handguard. can anybody direct me into purchasing the proper barrel nut please? i will be using it on my stag arms model 3. heres 2 pics that could help if possible. thank you!

thank you Lee Indy, i figured it out. i had to break off the delta ring and mount the rail onto the barrel nut. i’ll call troy next time worst case scenario. thanks and have a great weekend. be safe!

if thats the mrf it just mounts to the factory. i thought it was a trx

i found out the hard way. i will need to purchase a triangular handguard cap and break off the delta ring. after the delta ring is broken off, the end of the handguard has grooves inside it that sits on the knotches of the barrel nut. i thought it was the trx also from the pics that i’ve seen online but in my experience, the mrf needs the delta ring to be removed as well… unless i’m wrong. i’m looking at the inside of the troy handguard and it makes sense to me that the delta ring has to be removed because theres slots for the barrel nut. do you think that i’m doing something wrong? if so, please let me know because i really don’t want to spend money on another handguard.

I cheated, used a 4’’ angle grinder with cut off wheel to remove D.ring and spring :smiley: didnt take much longer than 5 minutes

Ryan, did you put a triangular handguard cap on or did you leave it off as well as the gas block and gas tube? I’m new to the ar15 scene and still learning. I really like the free float look of the rifle. Where is the gas transferred to if I leave the gas block and gas tube off? Ok, I really admit that I’m a TRUE newbie.

The hand guard cap is useless with any free float system and can effect accuracy. Without the gas block and tube the weapon becomes a clumsly single shot rifle. The rails or hand guards just cover them up.

I have the cap on mine, the Troy rail was designed to use it, there is room in between them and if it degrades accuracy my BCM hasnt noticed.

just pop the barrel off its only took me 5 min to install the mrf-cx

upsetting day for me at the shop. i brought in the handguard and asked them to put it on so that i wouldn’t screw it up since its my first AR. they told me that its not gonna work because i will need a new upper and a 20 inch barrel. he said that my stag arms model 3 is not compatible with the troy srai-mrf-d9bt 9inch free float that i’m trying to mount on. is this true?

9" is for a midlength gas system, but will go over a lo-pro gas block or a shaved front sight post on carbine length gas system. If you have a car gas system and want the front sight you need a 7" rail.

I understand what you’re saying and the accuracy issue may or may not matter on a combat type carbine. I think that the Troy system is designed to allow you to still use the cap vs. designed to use it. The rails are either free floated or not, with a cap they are not.

The Troy rail I have is round at the reciever end and triangular at the muzzle end for the cap to fill the wide open hole, it does not touch the cap (altho its dang close) and is still free floating unless I torque it hard then it touches.
