I’m getting ready to purchase my first AR this weekend. Local source has both a DPMS Panther Lite and a S&W M&P in stock. Both same basical configuration. The S&W is about $150 more. Which would you buy? Why?
S&W hands down.
Better QC, better components, follows the TDP closer than the DPMS.
Plus, for 150 dollars more you get a wonderful lifetime warranty on the S&W. Their customer service is top notch and you will not go wanting for anything with them.
Give them a shot, no pun intended, i bet you will be pleased.
I would definitely get the DPMS over the S&W.
Pfft, if you’re gonna spend money you might as well go all out. Dont buy a POS DPMS, buy an Oly Arms instead. ![]()
Go S&W, overall better quality.
Guys, this member obviously has a legitimate question. Lets not confuse him with sarcasm.
To the original poster: If you are considering only those two brands, go for the S&W. Their quality control and customer service is far better than DPMS. However, if you are open to considering other (more expensive) brands, consider those like LMT or a true Colt.
S&W.
Don’t even think about the DPMS. The two guys who said DPMS so far are pulling your leg, note the sarcasm smilies.
What are they asking for the S&W?
Thanks guys… MY question is a serious question, and you are right, I can’t tell the sarcasm. What’s the skinny with the DPMS?
They are asking $1159 for the S&W M&P15.
No doubt about it…S&W.
I have their T model and it’s top quality. And I echo what everyone said about the warranty. ![]()
Spend the extra, buy the S&W
A fellow officer I know bought a DPMS with their rail forearm system…the rails are so out of spec, he had to beat on his verticle foregrip with a mallet……
Buy the S&W
S&W, no contest.
I agree with the choice of S&W, but last time I looked the warranty was one year. Lifetime is on handguns. See page 28: http://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstore/SmWesson/upload/other/S&W_MP15_Rifle_Manual.pdf
S&W by far!
Been running a recently aquired MP15 T…no problems…excellent quality for the $$'s.
FWIW
Crap, Austin, thanks for the correction.
I will however say that im fairly certain that S&W will help its customers out beyond the warranty period. I dont want to make a blanket statement but given how far they’ve gone to help on non warrantable issues with my personal firearms i would say they will do their best to make sure the customer is happy so long as it is within reason.
Now, define in reason…i dunno. ![]()
+1 S&W’s customer service is very good.
S&W.
Better quality.

S. & W., no brainer.
