I recently purchased my first ar, a 16" LMT, and have been shooting it with iron sights while I saved up money to purchase a red dot.
I have been doing a lot of reading on this forum and have narrowed my choices down to a Comp C3 or H-1.
The rifle will be mainly used for range shooting and ocassionally some hunting. I would like to attend a carbine course at some point in the future as well. Most of my shooting will be done under 100 yards, but might stretch it out to 300 from time to time(I have a remington 700P for the longer stuff).
There is only one shop nearby that might have the sights for me to look through. I am going to call them Monday, but I doubt they will have them.
I am pretty sure the C3 would serve my purposes, but don’t mind spending the extra money to get the H-1.
I guess I am just looking for some opinions based on my intended use. Any and all input would be appreciated.
I just got in my “T” 1 in LaRue tall riser mount from LaRue this week. I own and have been running M2 Aimpoints, Eotech 552 and 553, and an old Trijicon Reflex that does duty on a Ruger 10-22.
The Aimpoint micro is so far ahead of the other sights out there I barely know where to begin praising it. Compact, lightweight, fast.
I used it in conjunction with my PVS 14 a couple nights ago. Mounted the NVD behind the Aimpoint in the same PRI cradle mount I’ve always used and the whole gun still balanced better than it ever has before (LMT 10.5" CQBR upper)
I will absolutely purchase a second one for use on an MP5.
For the distance shooting there’s a thread on here discussing longest shots made with Aimpoints. In it Freddie Bliss discusses making 600 yd. hits with the magnifier behind the T 1 (If I remember correctly). After seeing how well the little guy runs with a secondary NV optic behind it at night I can certainly see how he accomplished his work with a secondary and daylight.
Thanks for the replies. I guess I was just worried that I would have a harder time aiming with the H-1 than the larger C3, but everyone seems to like the micro.
Unfortunately I have not been able to find any shops that carry any aimpoint products. Every store I go in says they are too expensive to stock but they could order them. I found this funny as I looked at the $1000 rifles that lined the shelves.
What are everyone’s opinions on the ADM mount?
I can pick up the H-1 for about $60 less with that mount.
For a beginner would I be better off with an absolute cowitness or lower 1/3, or is it going to be strictly a preference thing?
larue mnts are all the rage but the aimpoint mount will work just fine – if you really want reliable QD and replacement with maintained zero then the larue mnt is worthwhile – if you are going to put the h-1 on and leave it on then the adm is good to go
I just got my T1 with Larue tall mount and sighted it in on my LMT 16" Upper. I am already in love… my second sight is the Aimpoint M4 with Larue mount. Nothing wrong with the M4 either, but the T1 is just so small and light weight…
I would say that whether it’s best to go lower 1/3 or absolute is 100% personal preference. I’ve heard arguments which to what was better and why. I personally prefer absolute co-witness for those who have folding front and rear sights like myself. I would say if you have standard front sights, the lower 1/3 method may be a bit easier to get use to at first because the sights are mostly out the way. OTOH neither is really difficult to adjust to IMO. It’s all about how you feel more comfortable when you train.
