Im new to the game and need some advice picking a RDS for my 6920. The general consensus seems to be aimpoint or EOTech. I was looking at the aimpoint pro. What specific models would you recommend? I would love to keep the price <$500.
Price isnt a huge deal, but i dont need anything too crazy either. I plan to take a few training courses with the gun to learn the platform, but it is not for duty use…maybe some 3-gun down the road. Thanks.
If I were you, I would find the model that you like and try to bid on a used one from ebay. People are always changing their mind on optics and you can be there waiting for a good deal. I have had better luck on ebay as opposed to gunbroker/auction arms for optics.

Aimpoint c3 is a great optic if you do not need nv, but it is not much more for an h1 if you would prefer a smaller optic. I have an h1 and t1 and love them both.
+1 on buying your first optic used. I tried out a few optics on my 6920 before finding “the one” that suits my needs best.

Avoid ebay for stuff like this. Ebay is full of fakes so unless you’re an experienced ebayer, its easy to purchase dubious products. sometimes that extra $20 it costs elsewhere purchaces peace of mind. I’d rather you check out the Equipment Exchange because chances are much higher you’re getting the real deal.
I wouldn’t say avoid, rather make sure you are buying what you are looking for. If it is to good to be true, it probably is. As always, read feedback. There are other place such as equipment exchange that are good as well. I think a h1 sounds good for what you want. I have a comp m4 and wouldn’t trade it for any other red dot.

I absolutely LOVE my aimpoints (t-1 and 3x mag).
I love my Trijicon ACOG’s(TA31Fw/RMR, TA50-2, TA26R4 Compact) and Eotech XPS3-0.
For three gun down the road skip the RDS and get a good low power variable scope like the Trijicon TR24 1-4. There are also a bunch of 1-6 scopes that came out this year. For your price range the Burris MTAC would be a good choice or the Vortex Viper 1-4 PST.

Short answer is yes. Once you take your carry handle off, any sight with a MIL STD 1913 picatinny rail mount will fit. After that you get into absolute vs lower 1/3 co witness with your iron sights. I think most use lower 1/3 but it ultimately comes down to personal preference.
Like you said, Aimpoint and EOTech are both good. If you can, check out a few to see what you like and don’t like before you make your choice. I haven’t used one, but everything I’ve heard points to the PRO being a good optic, especially for the price.
I’m having the same problem with a BCM 16" middie. Trying to decide among an Aimpoint H-1, Aimpoint PRO or a Burris MTAC. Since I also have a BCM 20" and a PSA 16" middie HB, maybe I’ll get all three eventually. Think I’ll try Primary Arms first though to see what I like. Then sell them on TOS when I decide what works for me.
For 3 gun go with a low powered scope. Maybe a 1-4, 1-6, 1.5 - 5, etc. Those IMHO would be the best.

My fiance offered to buy me an optic for my bday. Im thinking an aimpoint H1 since i like the smaller profile. Should i just buy one, or shoot for a while with irons first?
Next question…what else do i need to mount it on a 6920? LaRue mount and thats it? If i take the handle off, am i gtg with a mount and H1?

You’re good with a Larue mount. That’s all you need. And I believe when you buy a package deal, it comes mounted on the mount and all you have to do is take the handle off and put the mount on the rifle.
My recommendation would be Eotech OPMOD or Aimpoint PRO. I don’t care at all for my Aimpoint T-1, although I might re-look at the platform when their 2 MOA dots come out. Otherwise, tube is too small and too many annoying internal reflections. The smaller profile is nice until you actually have to look through it to try to acquire a target rapidly.
I agree, stay away from eBay. Rife with counterfeits.
While I am not one of the “master irons first” guys, taking your first class, especially an intro class, with irons gives you an opportunity to learn from other people’s mistakes. Most guys are anxious to show off their shit, and will damn near insist that you shoot it, so it should present a great opportunity for you to see what others have and maybe even run it through a drill or just shoot a few rounds through it.
So you get to learn something from the class, without a major expense on an optic you may not like, and the money is better spent on training than hardware (if you have to make that choice), and you get exposure the hardware that the guys that maybe put the cart before the horse have already bought.
There’s folks that’ll never really learn them… which is fine because many guys don’t get to shoot beyond 100 or 200 yards. Some guys I see post that their local range’s max distance is even less.
So just being able to get crude hits at those distances is probably adequate for them.
That said, get the Aimpoint C3. Worry about the 3 gun later.
