Hello, Im starting to upgrade my old bushmaster, and wanted to see if anyone can tell me which handguard to put on it. I have pretty much decided to put either a Larue 7.0, DD Omega 7 or the DD lite rail. I will be putting a Vickers sling on this ar, so quick release swivls are a must. And if i go with the Larue or the DD lite rail, i will have to take it to a gunsmith to get it installed, because I dont have the tools or the know how at the moment to do it myself. Just wanted some opinions and maybe some pics of carbine length rifles. Thanks
I’ve had Troy MRF-C 7" on my carbine. I installed it myself, just had to cut the Delta ring in half to remove it. It has QD mounts built in too.
I have the Daniel Defense and really like. I use a single point sling though so I don’t have to worry about the QD mounts.
DD Omega 7, or the MRF-DI. I went with the MRF for mine, but the Omega for a FF rail is amazing.
Omega 7, or the old fashion KAC RAS ![]()
Neither will require the removal of the barrel, FSB, etc. Omega allows the barrel to be free floated, RAS does not.
If you intend to have a shop do it for you, DD Lite Rail, Omega X, or LaRue are all good options.
Omega X 7.0

My preferences…
If you’re going to take it to a gunsmith, go DD Lite, DD Omega X, or KAC URX. Just one thing about this - if you’re going with the Lite, you’re going to need to buy sling swivel attach points. Get whichever one feels better to you. Honestly, after having fondled a few, they all have their pluses and minuses, but I prefer the Lite. The Omega X has a lot going for it, too, when you buy the FSB 12.0 version - the setup is pretty sick. I haven’t tried any of the LaRue offerings, but I assume it feels similar to the KAC since the profile is very similar.
If you’re not going to take it to a gunsmith, go DD Omega.
I would wait a couple months until Spikes Tactical comes out with their new slim profile quad rail. Centurion Arms also has a new quad rail coming out.
unless you are a midget, get something longer than 7"
why? i have a midlength and i like my carbine. im not a midget and it has a carbine length handguard now and its pretty comfy. But thanks for the suggestion.
the length of your gas system doesn’t have to dictate the length of your rail. A longer rail gives you much more flexibility in how to run your rifle. I strongly recommend a longer rail.
i have a midlength with a long handguard and im fully aware of the advantages of that setup. With this rifle i want the fixed front sight and short rail.
do you favor a short rail because of the aesthetics?
I dont really favor either. i like the long rail and reaching out there on the handguard and having the better control but this gun is going to be different. i am very comfy with a short rail. sorry if this hurts your feelings. but this is a thread asking about three specific handguards not the length, so please, if you dont have any experince with said handguards, kindly piss off.
lol ok dude.
