The aimpoint mount looks exactly like the one that came with my Primary Arms M3 Clone. The fit and finish on mine were decent. I’ve banged it around pretty good on my trainer for about a year now - I had to tighten the main knob once a few months in, even with blue loctite applied, but no other issues and the zero has held just fine. I have no idea what kind of aluminum it is made from, but I’m guessing it isn’t in the same league as even the factory QRP just based on the amount of material alone, not to mention they are cheap.
I’m pretty sure I read about aluminum collapsible stocks on the original Car-15 carbines but I don’t know what they look like. May you’ve run across one?
Yeah looks like a retro sp1 style carbine stock with some type of aftermarket recoil pad or extender on it any other markings on the stock
If I’m not mistaken, early AR carbines had an aluminum stock. The early 727 carbines had a similar style stock, but it had 4 reinforcement ridges and was made of fiber reinforced plastic. I recall seeing an aftermarket stock (DPMS, I think) that was also metal, but they were very expensive and fairly rare. The pad is probably the old Cherokee slip on.
The mount is likely a Chinese knockoff of the KAC cantilever mount. It is, in my estimation, the most copied mount out there for the Aimpoint.
i cant help much with the mount, but i see 'em all over ebay for ~$20. my guess is its chicom and no go.
same opinion as everyone else on the stock- looks like the old style early colt alum stocks with some kind of bigass buttpad. the only manfer i’m aware of that made them in alum is colt, but there’s a few that made and still make that style in plastic.
Fortunately, I have a Larue Cantilever mount in my box o’ junk.
Why on earth would anyone want a heavy aluminum carbine stock?
they were titties back in the day. that was before the advent of fiber-reinforced polymers, and bakelite/similar plastics would just break. so aluminum it was. my first ever personally owned AR sported one, i loved it. sucked in cold weather, though.
DING on the SOG mount. It is a dead ringer. $50 bucks on Brownell’s. I guess it would be great for a .22.
My old aluminum Bushmaster stock is lighter than my SOPMOD. ![]()
Could it be a Bushmaster stock?
As I recall, the stocks on our XM-177s were aluminium.
Correct. The ones we had in the Ranger Bn back in the 80s were aluminum with a black plastic coating. They were very rugged and in some ways better than the current issued ones. I still have one at home.
So, interested in selling the stock now? ![]()
The carbine stock is aftermarket.
Sure am! Too heavy for what yah get.
I am saving it and my old upper for a retro build, once I get around to getting it done. Of course, I don’t have the original flash suppressor due to legal issues.
Back then, only officers, RTOs, medics and other selected folks were issued them.
How can you tell?
Wrinkle finish and the contour of the sling loop on the top of it.
Original Colt polymer coated aluminum buttstock on the original Colt civillian carbine, the SP-1 Carbine.
