Help me find a holster (drop leg)

Hi guys. I need your expertise, please. I have the general idea of what would work but am pretty sure that there are a few things that I do not know about, that you guys can teach me.

So I have a 5" M&P Pro Series C.O.R.E., with a Surefire X300 and a JPoint. It also has suppressor sights.

I am looking for a holster that would work with a drop leg panel as a drop leg holster, or something like a Safariland holster that can mount to the first line belt, but lowered using the G Code RTI kit.

I can’t find any Safariland holsters that will work with this pistol, and trust me, I looked. So far, all I have found is this…

This will work with everything on my M&P. I like this holster and can figure out a way to mount as a drop leg platform, but want to know any suggestions, based off of all of the experience you all have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God bless.

Thigh rigs are a pain in the ass. They are worn for specific reasons. If you aren’t using one for that reason, you honestly are better off with a belt holster with a 1.5 inch drop like a Safariland 6285. Your pistol choice is honestly going to make selection tricky enough that you may need it custom made. Not enough market yet.

Check out the Off the Grid Concepts ADR MKIII: https://otghex.com/products/mkiii-outside-waistband/. It include a G-Code RTI adapter so you can mount it on a number of adapters, to include their drop leg platform. MM did a review on one a little while ago, as well: http://www.militarymorons.com/equipment/firstline2.html#otg.

Do you need a drop leg holster or want one? As stated above, they suck. Do you wear armor that prevents use of a holster on your belt?

I’ve worn drop leg in the past and much prefer it up high. If you want/need a drop leg make sure you shorten the drop to just low enough to allow you do draw. It shouldn’t be down by your knee- think high thigh.

Thank guys for the responses. I would say I DON’T need a drop leg more than I do. I do train with a plate carrier, but do not use it for work. So I do need the option of a dropleg holster.

Other than the plate carrier. I prefer one of belt mounted holster due to my arm length. I am a lanky guy, so it’s always been uncomfortable drawing from waist high holster.

I do use drop legs for my other firearms and never have em very low. I am constantly telling people to pull them up, but they just treat me like I’m being a know it all, so I leave em alone. I wear mine right around where my pivot point is, so when I run, it has no wobble or shake.

That’s why I asked about the RTI G Code option. It puts it right in the right spot for me. It just has to be about 3-6 inches lower then if it were mounted on the belt.

Thanks for the help.

Ditto. After training and going through a few schools with guys who run hard in deployments, I switched out of a thigh rig several years ago. The 1.5" safariland drop works great even with armor if you can retro a holster to fit it.

I’d would prefer that setup, but don’t know how I’d make the kydex holster in the link work with the safariland. Any ideas? The drop leg I had for my other pistol was so high that it was just a little lower than the 1.5" drop and only used one strap. Got tired of it so high in my crotch.

I’ve seen the safariland adapters mounted on regular kydex holsters, so if any of you who know how, or where to get it done, please let me know.

THIS IS NOT MY SETUP.

I copied this from this site to show the height of my drop leg, if I have to go that route. As stated, I’d love to do the ITR thing, but if not, I would not have the holster much lower than this.

I usually train with a battle belt setup in conjunction with a PC, or chest rig. Even when it’s a casual day at the range and I’m just waring the belt, or just a holster, I prefer that it be about this much lower than my belt.

The last setup I had was almost exactly this low and felt great. I would not have it much lower than this. I actually get a kick out seeing guys at the range and on youtube practically bend sideways for their transition. I am an inexperienced nobody compared to a lot of you, but I try to keep my holster setup practical. I’ve been known to be experimental on other parts, and I’ve learned mostly what works and what doesn’t, but I’m very picky about my holster being as practical as possible and in the best spot that works with my arm length.

Anyways, thanks for any help guys.

To me, that looks like a universal nylon style holster hooked to a molle thigh rig. You might be able to retro a kydex holster to the molle platform with some adapters or enginuity.

I may be wrong here since Im not big into the kydex holster market, but doesnt the retention on a kydex come from just the friction of the front/back of the holster along with the form fit to the specific gun?

If it does, I would be hesitant to run kydex on any thigh rig. Anything that is mounted below the pivot point of the hip joint is going to move with running kneeling, squating, etc. and I would be afraid of it working loose under hard use. I would prefer a positive retention on a thigh holster.

Again, I may be wrong about the kydex since I havent played around with them too much.

Mates to Safariland 6000-series holsters.

If you’re looking for a kydex type holster that can mate to a Safariland rig, try contacting these guys:PHLster
They did a video a while back on a custom kydex job for a Sig X5 that could mate with a Safariland rig using their QLS system:

Pretty good looking work; I’m thinking of going this route (maybe using them for the work) for another belt that I’d like to set up.

I’m of the same mind as other guys here. I train with armor and plates fairly frequently, and use them for work, and I strongly prefer a belt mounted holster, slightly lowered and maybe a little offset. I’ve been using a Safariland Drop UBL to effect this, and its worked with no issues (although it does slap a little bit when running). I also keep the holster side of my vest pretty slick.

I’m not sure what your body type is, or what other gear you’re running, but check to make sure you’re not wearing your armor/plates too low.

If I had a pro I could help you out.

Ignore the low cut on this one was I saw the picture I was like WTF did I cut it so far down for. Re did one for the guy with proper trigger guard cover before I sent it out.
