Help - Do All Optic Sought

I’m researching the following, but coming up dry so far. Trying to keep the cost as minimal as possible, but still want a quality optic solution:

Aimpoint T1/H1 or M3 (based on bat life and price)
Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 or similar
Acog TA01 4x32

Problem is, I want an easy, no brainer type of scope, but I also want the ability to get out and shoot on the 200 and 300 yard range with it. My eyesight is not good enough for any amount of precision at that range without some amount of magnification, so I’m looking for something that can cover both close quarters like a 1x optic, but that can also reach out to the longer distances. I wnat something with longer bat life, which is the appeal of the aimpoints. I want something affordable and prefer it not add lots of weight and clutter to the top rail.

Problem with Acog is set magnification, so what do you do with close quarters? Also, price of the TA01 is at top of my budget as it is, and I dont’ know how it compares to the model 31 everyone seems to love.

Problem with Aimpoint is that it’s only 1x and it sticks up like a satelitte dish.

Problem with Accupoint is that I don’t know if I like them and am not sure about the lack of ranging reticles.

Any thoughts or nudges in teh right direction?

From what your options are, I’d suggest the Aimpoint M3 and then get a FTS magnifier (4x IMO) that way you have the ability to get those long range shots in, and in an instant snap the magnification to the side and you can have a close quarters optic. and f somehow the optic fails, you can always have BUIS to use, which you couldn’t really use with a trijicon Acog

my $0.02

Thanks. That makes sense.

My options are not limited to these by the way, just the ones I’ve been researching the most.

That said, can you use the magnifier with the T1/H1 also? And if I went with an M3, is a 2MOA or 4MOA better for the type of use I’m looking for?

Thanks again for the input.

yes i believe you can, you’ll just need to find a mount that will allow you to view the T1/H1 thru the magnifier. but i’m sure someone will chime in with more info on that.

the M3 you have the option to get the 2MOA or the 4MOA, from what some others on the forums have said, the 4MOA will stand out in bright sunlight while the 2MOA washes out. all personal preference i guess.

You don’t need the M3 unless you’re scuba diving with night vision

I’d suggest this:
Pick up an Aimpoint C3 and mount. The C3 is more or less the M3/ML3 but without the NV capability of the M3 and with less waterproof depth than ML3. Stil a great optic with great battery life, but more economical. Last I remember I think you could get a C3 in an ADM mount for about $445, new?

Then if you really need some magnification, pick up a Larue Po’Boy special. The flip mount with the 2.5x Hensoldt magnifier. $195

Now you’ve got a brand new Aimpoint, magnifier, and mounts for the cost of just the T1/Mount combo.

Oh, and for use with the magnifier, I’d get the 2 MOA dot. The 2 MOA dot at full brightness will be just about as big and bright as the 4 MOA dot, but when turned down a little it will afford a little more precision. Especially with the magnifier.

Me and you are in the same boat. Iam looking for optics to have you seen this http://www.operationparts.com/AIMPOINT_COMP_ML2_2X_MAGNIFICATION_RED_DOT_SIGHT_p/10583.htm
2X 2 MOA RED DOT
They also make this

2x 1 moa redot they also make a 2x 2moa version

sounds like you are looking for the same thing I am

I posted this earlier does anybody had any experience with these optics?

Only problem is that those don’t offer a 1x solution.

I’ve never heard of anybody who actually uses and likes the 2x Aimpoints. You lose the versatility of the 1x optic and the field of view is very restricted. Those are also both stupid expensive, especially for unpopular versions of a several-generations-old model.

How close does my target need to be for a 1x solution to become absolutely a necessary?
Acogs are fixed 4x I know they are not Ideal for cqb . I am just looking for a nice blend of close range and some better longer range 300 yard 400 yard max
with out the added complication and weight of FTS magnifiers.

Thank you loknlod field of view restricted Is it real bad or just a little aknowing?

How does the T1/H1 on a Larue Tall mount work out with regards to using a magnifier? Seems like the dot size is issue to some, but how does it work under magnification? I like the smaller size of them.

Sorry txbonds for jumping in I was just happy to finally get Answer.

I am in the same boat as our original poster. I want something for close up work and also something that allows me to reach out to 3 - 400 meters with ease. Has anyone shot with the leupold mark 4 cq/t? I like the idea of being able to adjust my magnification between 1 and 3x but they are awfully expensive and from what I have seen get mixed reviews…

The description I remember hearing was “like looking through a straw”

Try searching for “Micro Magnifier” in the optics forum – Here are some threads I found with good information:
Quck question on T-1 micro and 3x

T1 + 3X Magnifier = terrible dot shape! (read the thread, not just the title)

Aimpoint T-1 and 3x Magnifier?

Well, that didn’t help. LOL

1/2 of them say it works great, and the other 1/2 say it’s fuzzy and doesn’t work well at all. LOL

First let me apologize to txbonds for hijacking this thread for a minute

LOKNLOD reports are that on the ml2 2x are that field of view is bad not trying to dispute you aimpoint web sight http://www.aimpoint.com/upload/products/2008/Productsheet/080909_CompML2_Eng_M00485.pdf
Standard feature of all aimpoint sight unlimited field of view ?? Am I interpreting this wrong is aimpoints info not listed right?? every were I have looked just repeats this same specs cannot find any reviews posted on M4C or Google.
I can find some reviews on the C3 2x 1 moa all positive no mention of field of view? As you have noted the C3 2x is no longer in production. I am just trying to get a gauge has of the field of view is it more than midrange 3x9 scope set on 3x. Less than 3x9 set on 3x sorry for this hijacking blame the samoli’s:D

TX,
I run the T-1 on the Larue mount with the magnifier on the pivot mount and it works for me. You just have to make sure you have it mounted so the screws are at 9 and 12 with the dot centered. It looked like a comet with a tail until I did this. I don’t know if the dot is actually centered, but it’s a nice crisp dot through the magnifier now.

Semper Fi,
Dave
