I have a few sealed cases of 168gr FGMM. I’ve had some questions about the date of manufacture and wondering if someone can help decode the lot number.
I’ve searched here, other forums and Google at large coming up with nada.
The lot number marked on the side of the box is: LOTNOV21T468
I have already called and left a voice-mail and sent an e-mail. Both of those were done before asking on the forum. Thanks for providing tips on how to get the information asked for in the OP.
You would have to call. That lot number does not have a year code. Only the the month and day. If you recently bought it, it was probably 2012
How you were able to deduce 2012 from a lot number that apparently does not have a year code is beyond me. Ammo was bought in April 2011.
Useful if he was trying to find a lot number within a production range. May also indicate potential storage issues if it was older ammo, but ammo of an age old enough to matter is likely to have had a packaging change.
Hmmmm,It was made on Nov 21st !!! LOL,When did you buy it ? Have you had it for years or just a little while, that should give ya a ball park ideal !! I looked around also and found nothing ! I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it,if the guy wants it and you bought it in the last few years, show him this, take the $$$ and go buy what ya want !! This is from the Federal Website:
FAQ:What is the shelf life of ammo and storage?
Anwser:Store reloading components and ammunition in a cool, dry place, protected from direct exposure to sunlight. If stored properly there is a 10-year shelf life on loaded ammunition.
For what its worth,I have shot Surplus ammo in 30/06/308/223/556 that is over 20years old !!!
How long ago? The CS department taking these calls is not huge and, given the political situation and that trade show season just started, I’m sure they are getting plenty of phone calls. It may not hurt to hit them up again.
I’m aware of the shelf stability with ammo. Unless it is duty ammo that is getting exposed to extreme temperatures in the trunk of a car or the like, I tend not to worry about it.
This has become mostly my curiosity needing to be satisfied at this point. I still remember how excited I was to learn the secret to decoding the back of a can of Grizzly.
Re: call, it was yesterday when I called. I’m not overly concerned about it. I’ll call again next week if they don’t give me a response tomorrow.
We have already established that you have no clue what you are talking about and are only saying 2011 now (vs you saying 2012 up top) because I told you in a PM that I bought them in 2011.
Nothing you say about this subject can be considered credible.
I already asked you to stop trolling my PM box. Now kindly leave the thread.
I tried to help because i’m try to give back to this community because of of all the helpful info I’ve received from this forum. The first part of the lot number is obvious, the second part is derived from a
Julian calendar. I had to look up that year and couldn’t do that at the time. My information is credible. In a couple months when they get to your call, you will see that its correct.
You first say that it “does not have” a year code, but probably made in 2012 if I just bought it recently.
In a PM, you claim you knew all along it was 2011 manufacture (but didn’t reveal this information until after I told you I bought it in APR11) and you could deduce this from the intimate knowledge you had of the lot codes. (Don’t worry I’m not going out your profession in case you weren’t being deceitful about that one detail). You refused to share this knowledge on the forum for the general membership, as if it is some trade secret or proprietary knowledge to know when a particular round rolled off the assembly line. However, that is not what is upsetting, what is upsetting is that you admittedly LIED to us all here at M4Carbine by telling us there was no year code, but if there was… it said 2012.
Then you hop on your pedestal and start talking about “giving back to the community”… :suicide:
You can keep your “help” or I can gladly put it in the jar with all the “hope” and “change” I’ve been getting lately.
Do not claim your information is credible in this thread anymore. Otherwise, I will post our PM exchange with all your other lies and I will not scrub out any of the information that “you couldn’t share with anyone else”.
