I’m looking for a scope for my 6.5 Grendel AR build, having a hard time deciding what exactly to get…don’t exactly have a ton of cash so I’d rather not go through a handful of scopes finding which is best for me. Rifle will be used for hunting and occasional ACTS matches, typically 200 yards and in. Would also like to try some more precision based shooting at the range if I’m feeling bored, so a little extra magnification wouldn’t hurt anything. With the ACTS matches we often have targets up close as well as at 100 yards, so minimum magnification should be no greater then 3x (2x or even 1x preferred).
I was looking real hard at Vortex’s offerings, seem like decent quality given the price. Was going to go with the Viper HS 2.5-10x44 but then I found a nice deal on some discontinued vipers, namely the 2-7x32. I can get that with the Versa-Plex C3 reticle, which looks like a standard crosshair with circle around it. I’d think that would help out a bit when shooting up close, especially in a match environment where I need to shoot quickly, but haven’t used such a reticle so I’m not sure if it’s worth it over a standard v-plex. Also, is there anything gained by the larger objective on the 2.5-10x scope over the other? Will it really make a difference that I can tell?
I can get the 2-7x on sale for $170, the 2.5-10 for $350…so a considerable price difference.
Thanks for the help.
