Had a AA battery pop in ny Comp M4 anything i should do to prevent damage? Already cleaned it out, dryed it ect…
This is why you never put anything but Lithium AA’s in critical gear.
I had a regular alkaline leak in my 553 EoTech. Baking soda solution cleaned off the contacts and battery compartment. Nothing else much to do other than to get the gunk off and dry it out. I switched to lithium after the experience. If it was too damaged I would call AimPoint and see if you could get it refurbished through them. I doubt its at that point though. You are probably good.
Yup pulled it out at work on Tue night to look for an attempt homicide suspect. No dot. Pulled battery today and compartment burped . Then i noticed liquid… ill be getting lithium tommorow
Yeah. “Make sure you use Lithiums” needs to become an “M4C’ism” that everyone starts parroting. Alkaline batteries wreck so much gear it’s not funny, especially if you forget or neglect to remove batteries during long-term storage.
I had several dozens of EoHells in Iraq that were ruined because of crap batteries and then the extreme heat. It didn’t help that idiots also left the batteries in there even when being stored.

You can always depend on an alkaline battery to leak corrosive potassium hydroxide. Even US made batteries that are inside the expiration date. The US battery companies are good about replacing damaged goods, at least flashlights. I don’t know how they would feel a bout a $500 sight. Lithium batteries seldom leak and are less corrosive, lighter though more expensive. I have a list of battery powered devices I visit every year to replace with new batteries. Even so, I still find leakers. BTW, vinegar would best to neutralize caustic KOH residue which residue will burn skin and eyes. Wash your hands well after handling this shit.
A lot of companies will replace even a $500 sight if the batteries are what ruined it. As long as in the sight instructions it doesn’t say “use lithium batteries only” or something else along those lines.
