Helo Hog Hunting

This is sooooooooooooooooooo in my Bucket List

We do a ton of hog hunting down here and a few places are offering helo hunts. So does paradigm SRP (IraqNinja) if I’m not mistaken.

Haven’t done any belt fed hog hunting… yet.

I’m not a big hunter, but hog hunting is something I’d like to do. I think there was discussion of an official M4C hog hunt meet up a while back, but not sure what became of that. But hog hunting from a helo, kicks my testosterone levels up to 11.

PETA: How can you kill the baby hogs too?

Helo Hunter: Easy! Just don’t lead them so much!

Mr Murphy and a few other guys are going to try to put one together on lightfighter. I go pretty often, so if you ever want to come to south Texas, just let me know. I’ll add you to the dialog on LF when we get it going.

Hog hunting for us is a lot different than other hunting. IraqNinja came down and brought a number of suppressor and NV kit. We usually stalk them or day them in a truck, or on occasion use a blind, etc.

Took one recently with my 9" 300blk at 70 yards using 110gr Black tip. Absolutely destroyed it. So, that’s now my primary hog hunting rifle with 250 yards or so.

Yep! Plenty of porkers here in Tejas!!

Those are the best ones for eating. Hate those big bastards!

Seems fair.

What does fair have to do with it?

Just an observation, not trying to rain on your parade here. Hopefully they harvested these pigs and took them to local food shelters.

My understanding is that’s exactly what they do. Short of hunting large bears with a knife, I can’t think of any hunting that’s “fair” per se. The farmers want the pigs gone, and that’s one way to do it.

I don’t think it’s any different than hunting with a rifle that allows you to be so far away that the game animal doesn’t even have the slightest clue that you’re there until it gets hit.

I used to joke that hunting is the only sport where one team doesn’t know that it’s playing but in the case of these hogs I have a different mindset. They do incredible amounts of damage and they reproduce so efficiently that they just overwhelm traditional hunting methods. Talk to any farmer that has had to deal with these things and I would bet they’d love to have the means to heli-hunt the porkers.

Hunting? No. Eradication? Yes.

Checkout Cedar Ridge Aviation, I know the owners/operators. Good guys and can get you on the pigs fo’ sho’. And yes most if not all pigs are recovered and donated.

Good on them then, and I do understand the epidemic that the wild hogs are in the southern states. And that they require drastic measures to hunt and attempt to keep the population down. I used to hunt growing up in MT, but the area I live in every hunter is a Tier 1 operator who can kill a deer at 300 yards with a throwing knife.

Actually, I recall there are some people who hunt hogs with a knife. What ever floats their boat I guess. I’m just not that tough or hardcore. You know what they say:

“If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.”

You do bring up an interesting point: The idea of fair or lack there of was never a major reason for a general lack of interest in hunting on my end, but I always considered sitting in a tree stand all day waiting for deer to show up to eat the food left for them, and blowing out their heart/lung with a scoped rifle, both boring (for me) and not very sporting/fair.

That’s how my buddies hunt in NH, VT, NY, and it does nothing for me. Now flying around in a helo popping a destructive non native animal that’s good to eat? Sign me up!

Then I would suggest staying out of a stand, and picking up a bow…try it, its fun.

This isn’t about “hunting”
It is about eradication of a peat that is causing farmers and ranchers millions every year.

I love hog hunting and do it year round.
I would LOVE to go do this!!!

hog hunting in Hawaii most use a knife and dogs more local style some use bows guns in hunting in the islands though
