I know I would be able to answer my own question by buying ammo of mutliple different grains, but to avoid spending uneccessary money to do this I thought I’d ask. From y’alls experience what is the heaviest grain ammo you have used and been successfully accurate with in an AR with a 16" 1/9 BBL? I’m honestly not interested in home reloads as I don’t reload myself. So what ammo could I go to the store and buy and expect pretty good results with? I’ll be shooting it out of a RRA CAR A4 w/ chrome moly BBL and Aimpoint Comp M4S
Thanks-
It’s projectile length for the reason why you have to pay attention to the rate of twist but generally 1x9 is good up to 69gr. It will not stabilize the 64gr M856 tracer for instance due to the length.
each barrel is different, so you need to test the different weights in your barrel. I know my 16" 1x9 RRA chrome lined barrel will stabilize the 75 grain ammo with no problem (TAP, TAP FPD, Privi, BH BB). But I key hole 77grain ammo at 50 yards.
