even a piston driven gun will fail
piston does nothing to decrease barrel heat, which comes from the friction of the bullet engaging the rifling in the barrel.
Yeah, great, the powers that be had these put on our issued M4’s and they’re fucking terrible. It turns what was supposed to be a light, handy weapon into an unwieldy, front heavy awkward bitch especially when you put the heavy ass Army rails and SOPMOD crap on the front.
well the video isnt how the gun is supposed to be used anyways. M4 isnt a SAW.

the AK was already on fire at the beginning of the video so I dont know the round count…the shooter stops just because the gun bacame too hot to hold like the second M4 in the article above… if the AK would have been kept in a rest like the M4 the end of the video would be the same

Pat Rogers/EAG Tactical has a BCM Mid-length Carbine going 16.4K before any replacement, then 26.4K before a cleaning = Moving Forward.

Amen, brother!!! Standard load-out when I was in was 210 rounds. Now, granted you might get into a SHTF scenario which requires more ammo, but come on… My M4 was the 3 rd burst version, which speaks volumes to what the M4 was designed to do.
If you want an M4 that will handle X thousand rounds of continuous full-auto fire, build one, issue it to everybody, and ditch the SAW, or better yet, issue everybody a SAW, since weight is obviously not an issue anymore.
I own middys actually, and no carbines. 
But I doubt seeing the military drinking our middy kool aid any time soon.
Is the HK 416 IAR supposed to do what the video demonstrated without failure?
All they need to do is lube and PM the M4s they currently have, not add weight.
An extra 5 oz forward of the balance point will definitely be noticeable and undesired by those who have actually hump it.
piston gas systems do nothing to reduce barrel heat, which primary comes from the bullet friction going down the barrel. I dont think the AIR even has a heavy barrel so I dunno where the Marines are going with that one.
The IAR is the HK416, so the barrel profile is heavier than the gov’t profile. It’s a heavy-barrel weapon only if one defines that as one with a barrel that isn’t US gov’t profile. I don’t think it’s all that heavy, personally.
The guy with the glittery stuff on his collar sitting at the desk behind me said that that upper configuration is unique to the Corps. I asked him if he was talking about the 16.5" barrel or the two stupid freakin’ bayonet mounts (one under the handguard, one attached to the barrel WTF?!?!), but he said no, and I didn’t inquire further because the look in his eyes made me nervous.
The M4A1 is nothing new.
Yes, the gov’t contour barrel is nice for general use. However, men in the special operations community have died because the standard M4 isn’t up to the task of providing sustained fire. There’s a reason the M4A1 is the near-unanimous choice in those circles.
