Which electronic hearing protection set gives you the most bang for your buck. I really like the Peltor Tac II just not the price. Let me know.
IMHO, Howard Leighton Impact Sports at $47. My buddy has a pair of the T-6 Peltors. My HL’s are better - less clipping, better NR.
The Impact Sports are what I use too. Folks I know have had less problems with them over the Peltors.
For something non expensive I use regular non electronic muffs. I’ve had the Peltor Tactical 6 or 7 before and just couldn’t stand the clipping so I spent the extra money on Sordins.
Peltor Sport tacs are a pretty good buy for the money.

Peltor 6s for $53
2nd this, I’ve used them for about a year now with no issues to report. Must say though I haven’t used them in heavy rain but light rain was a non issue.
Fit good, work good and i’m happy.
Just my 2 cents.

There’s a reason you see so many of these on the range, in class, and at matches. They are inexpensive and work. I’ve been using mine for almost a year. I have changed the batteries once. I have work them hours and hours on the range and in several multi day classes. I have worn them to two GSSF matches, one in the pouring rain. They work. Even if they stopped working tomorrow for what I paid for them it has been worth it.
Yeah, the Howard Leights are a decent get. Nice price, outside access to the battery compartment, reasonable weatherproofing, low-profile.
…unless you’re looking to wear a helmet. Then, because of that thick headband, you’re forced to rearrange your pads or put up with feeling like you have your head stuck in a vice.
No helmet = no problem, but if commonly wear them like many must, go with the Peltors or Sordins or have a solution in mind for what to do when you decide that ripping the headband padding off of the Howard Leights is your course of action.
- 1 for Howard Leighton, bang for the buck
Did you look here?
Howard leights are very popular and a good value. I use MSA Sordin Pro X with the Gel cups. They are very comfortable and fully waterproof. They also sound much better than anything else I have ever tried. They list the NRR at 18, which I think is not accurate IMHO. They are better than that, but when I RO a stage with a lot of walls nearby I do tend to add plugs. On an open range I have never had a problem. I would buy them again, and keep some howard leight’s around as a backup.
Thanks for the help on this. I just picked up a pair of Howard Leights off of overstock.com. $48 with free shipping. Pretty nice deal.
