Passed the senate 60/39 to move to debate. This means its nothing but a dog and pony show until Obama signs it (not like it wasnt before…) as this was the BIG hurdle to get the thing signed into law.
Whats so sad is only 16% of Americans think this will help them. Less than half support it. But our great Congress know’s whats best for us. Our deficits are now measured in trillions a year when just a few years ago people were going apeshit over a couple hundred billion.
Keep track of how your senator voted on this vote tonight. A vote for this tonight is basically the same thing as a vote for it. When the vote to pass comes up there will be a few who do not vote for it…but they may have voted to move to debate tonight. Its a cheap way to say they didn’t actually vote for the bill but in reality they did by moving to debate where now they simply need 51 votes to pass it.
Also remember if the gov deems you able to pay for insurance, and you do not have it you face thousands in fines/taxes, and if you don’t pay that its off to jail. Its going to be much harder for those of us looking for unemployment due to the taxes and burdens placed on small businesses. 5 years of services under this bill and 10 years of tax revenue…because the dems split up the total “plan” into a few different bills the entire “plan” is already hundreds of billions going to be added to our debt. You can imagine how many trillions this will add in the long run.
Next year is going to be the big push for amnesty and cap n trade. More taxes are coming, and millions of illegals we will be forced to pay for or go to jail. Millions ready to vote D come election day.
There is NO WAY for us to have a healthy economy in the future and keep up with this massive new tax burdens on both individuals and businesses. How much longer can this balance go on? Not long I believe…
The battle has just begun. Several of the Dems voted for this simply to placate the leadership. The final wording of the bill is TBD and will surely be much less offensive than the House bill. Then we have reconciliation. The fight is far from over. Call your Senator and your Rep.
Yes but from here on out they only need 51 votes to pass. Debate is a dog and pony show now. Bills that get voted on to debate get passed 97% of the time.
Now its just a matter of time before its signed. No way around it now. The blue dogs can vote no on final passage, and go home and say they voted against it. Liberman is a lying scumbag who said he wasnt going to vote for a bill that had a public option. Now he will vote against the final bill…keeping his word…but he was the 60th vote to get it passed tonight, and signed into law in a couple weeks.
Moving to debate just means it’s come out of committee. There will be further votes, amendments will be offered and each has to be voted on, and then there is another vote to close debate “cloture” which requires 60 votes to override a potential filibuster. If there is no sustained filibuster it is followed by the actual vote for the preliminary version which then has to be reconciled with the House version.
After that differences have been worked out the final bill goes back to each house to be voted on again before going to the President’s desk.
They all should be voted out - politics today is nothing but covering their butt for the next election. Those of us who live to 2014 and beyond, our children and their will experience a bankrupt economy when the costs of this really hits.
I swear to vote against every last one of my reps - their soles are for someone to truly judge.
The fight is far from over. And you better beleive that a lot of the Dems who voted to bring this to the floor are hearing it. And if Reid et al goes the reconciliation route it is going to be a backlash since the sheeple have been told by the talking heads that its a ‘back door/sneaky way’ to get it in.
Also, if I remember right, Reconciliation can only be used appropriations type bills,
I am not against providing health insurance for the uninsured, but I dont trust the feds to manage anything correctly, not spend us into the ground, or tax the shit out of us.
If they could devise a way to make it happen, while avoiding my concerns, I wouldn’t be opposed.
Without going into what I think about the politicians themselves, or what should be done with and to them, this is not necessarily the end. It only takes one Senator to throw a wrench into things. Just one can amend and amend and amend, and pull some other stunts and keep it tied up. Then there is the fact that maybe, just maybe they might not have the votes to pass it(yes I must be pie dreaming). Now if we have enough, or any that are willing to do their job is another question all together
They don’t care. They have an agenda, and it doesnt matter one bit to them what the people think. They believe just being in office gives them the go ahead to pass whatever they want.
It would be in trouble if it didn’t pass tonight which is the hardest vote to obtain because it requires the most amount of votes. It can be passed with 51 now after debate.
That’s incorrect. The Senate Rules don’t work that way.
The hardest vote is usually the cloture vote to end debate/filibuster. Both require 60 votes but MANY more bills enter debate that never make it to final cloture.
Usually, if a bill stands a good chance of passing, it has well over 60 votes to enter debate since the opposition will often want the chance to debate but then subsequently vote against the bill.
Reid uses $100,000,000 tax payer dollars to bribe LA senator to vote:
Unless the 60 Democrats united, Harry Reid couldn’t pass the cloture vote planned. One of the two Senators who couldn’t make up her mind was the Democratic Senator from the state of Louisiana, Senator Mary Landrieu.
Harry Reid discussed the issue with her. A deal was made. A 100 million dollar bribe using tax payer money was the deal that would get the “Yes” vote from Senator Mary Landrieu. It was agreed that her state, Louisiana, would get approximately 100 million dollars in Medicaid subsidy , using tax payer money. A special and extremely “Louisiana specific” section was included in the 2000 plus paged health care bill. The section could be found on page 432 of the bill. The section was so smartly worded that none of the other 50 states, but Louisiana, would get the 100 million dollar subsidy. Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu made up her mind, and said she will vote “Yes” for passing the Nov 21st Healthcare cloture.
Harry Reid got her critical vote, thanks to the 100 million dollar bribe.
He had to logroll just to get the bill to the floor for debate…not even to get it through final cloture an passage. That’s a profoundly disturbing development if your Senate Majority Leader dealing with a member of your own party and as rare as hens teeth, but there are still dozens of amendments and another cloture vote to end debate just in the Senate.
While it’s moved a step closer, literally thousands of bills have made it this far with more votes to bring it to the floor and never made it out of the Senate.
Any bets on whether or not they go nuclear over something this big? If they get this through it will be all our government does.
I have watched the British Parliament meet on CSPAN before and all they ever talk about is their national health care system.
Also the Democrats are so ideologically motivated they don’t seem to care whether or not they lose power in 2010 over ramming this down the American people’s throats. If we are at the point where elected officials are willing to do as much as they want to advance their agenda without regard to the will of the people it becomes difficult to impossible to check and reverse the damage done.
About that I am very pissed. The dumbass voted for a government healthcare bill because she was bribed with money to help support the shitty government healthcare we have now.
We will see. Blue dogs and moderates can still vote to end debate, and then get out of voting for the actual passage of the bill. They can then point to their voting record of not having voted for the bill even though they were the catalyst to getting it passed by voting to start and end debate. It all hinges on Reid being able to get 51 votes.
It would not surprise me. Just last week Obama basically said he doesn’t care if his opinion poll results tank that he is basically there just to pass an agenda. He may not run in 2012 if his ratings tank. I don’t believe him for a second but it just goes to show how little many liberals care about public opinion. They will get huge bills passed, get kicked out of office, and then come back in 10 years to start the process over again. This is how we got SS, medicare/medicaid, etc, etc…Its one lesson the dems have learned well…just getting their ideology passed is what important because we are stuck with crappy programs forever. They can then let republicans take over for a few years, and people get sick of them just to vote dems in again.
