Heads up, MFS .223 sale at Palmetto State Armory

i got my first 1000 rounds two weeks ago. I’ve shot 100 rounds on my brand new LMT CQB with no problem at all. i ordered another 1k and will be getting it on Monday.

Price jumped up a little and is now $10.00 more per 1000rds.

my experience is similar to everyone elses, ran about 150 rounds through it a week and a half ago,

i had one issue where the round failed to fully seat in chamber on the first mag, after that everything else ran well, nice ejection pattern about 4:30, 5 ft back

Ordered a half case over the Memorial Day sale and received it about a week later.

Have shot about 200 rounds out of both my 6920 and 581-series Mini-14 with no issues so far. Definetly thinking about ordering some more for cheap practice/training ammo.

Only negative is it came shipped pretty sloppily. The 25 individual boxes were dumped in a plastic bag and then dumped into the box with no padding so they flopped around loose inside the plastic bag causing many of the box end tabs to come undone but no ammo was spilled out thankfully. Boxes also looked dirty and faded like they had been sitting awhile. None of the rounds appeared damaged though.

Overall, is it better/worse/equal to Barnaul? How about Tula?

Thanks for the inputs!

EDIT: Just found a YouTube which showed MFS .223 zinc/steel case which has the same headstamp as Silver Bear. Answers the question.

Just another follow-up on this. Barnaul manufacture with both Barnaul and MFS headstamp:

I was poking around the PSA site today and saw that not only are they offering free shipping still but that they seem to have MFS ammo in stock again ($129 per 500). With the free shipping it’s not a bad deal.

The people I know that are shooting have no complaints about it…good cheap ammo that goes bang.

LOL, I know its not for everybody do to time and space contraints but some of you should really look into reloading. I’m currently loading brass cased ammo with good Hornady bullets that’s suited perfectly for my rifle for $135/1000. The savings pay for equipment quickly and you’ll shoot a lot more.

Not to sidetrack this thread too much, but what was your initial investment for your reloading system to get you started? I have bags upon bags of brass that I need to make use of…

I lucked up and bought a complete turn key package off a guy that was liquidating stuff to buy a home. I got a Dillon 550B with several caliber conversions, electronic scale, tumbler, calipers, brass, bullets…pretty much everything but a case trimmer all for $700. For many that will seem like a lot for the initial investment, but I simply went through my safe and sold a gun that was collecting dust to cover the cost. The reloading gear was a better investment in my opinion.

In my first year I loaded:
5K rounds of 223
500rds rounds .40
500rds rounds .45
5K rounds of 9mm

So as you can imagine I was able to recoup my cost in savings within a few months. The best part is that I shoot, train, and compete 500% more often than I did before because the ammo drain isn’t such a bear.

Even starting with a simple Turret press will garner you savings as you will be able to produce a couple hundred rounds an hour.
