HD Shotgun Help

Good Day Gentlemen,
I have an issue making another HD shotgun I already have a folding stock Remmy 870 SBR’d with a 14inch barrel, Surefire forend, tritium ghost ring sights. I also have identically set up 18 inch Mossberg 500 Speedfeed pistol grip stock a and 20 inch 590 with previously mentioned Surefire forend and Hogue stock. The issue is that I also have a parkerized Smith and Wesson M3000 Police Shotgun 2 3/4 chambered 18 inch barrel with original walnut stock and forend. I want to change out the stock and forend, add rifle or ghost ring sights, add some type of light to it. I paid $100 for this back in 1990 and really didn’t know I was buying the dreaded Albatross. I’ve used this at the range multple times feeds everything I put into it without issue. I’ve tried to contact differnt companies but have yet to get a solid answer on accessorizing her.
Although it resembles the 870 the parts are not interchangeable, none of the local smiths will do any work modifying parts to fit.
If I need to shoot an intruder at home I would rather have this sitting in the evidence room for a year or two. So I need sugestions on how to dress this puppy for work

Just leave it alone and save yourself the money spent on trying to make it “Tactical”. You already have three other home defense shotguns. Your odds of having to kill someone is slim to none. If you’re trying to make the Smith the sacrificial lamb, why bother spending more money on it and why did you bother tricking out the other three if they are to be held in reserve? Makes no sense at all.

You have a fine shotgun there. I prefer the 870 to all contemporary shotguns in riot type configuration. However, if parts were readily available for the 3000, I’d go that route. They didn’t catch on, but actually offered some advantages over the 870, including eliminating the potential for certain malfunctions Remington took much longer to address with the “flex tab”. Not sure on customization, but you can probably figure out how to mount a light and a big dot sight if needed. Otherwise it should be good to go once proven. Plus with only 100 in it, you don’t have to worry about theft, loss, etc. Not suggesting sloppy gun storage before anyone jumps on that bandwagon.

Agreed, leave as is.

That’s one of the nice things about a shotgun, you can leave them pretty basic.

Thanks gents, with a good bit of thought just leaving it be will be fine. No need to create the next best whiz bang shotgun K.I.S.S.

That and statistically around 75% of all self defense and attempted/achieved homicide shootings involve a handgun, not a long gun. This FBI statistic has remained pretty constant for about 30 years. Long guns are just plain more difficult to get into action when you need them versus a handgun which is usually more readily available.

On the flip side, statistically far more people die from being hit by buckshot than that taking multiple handgun wounds. More people even survive rifle wounds that 12-gauge buckshot.

Whether it be Dr. Fackler’s data from the 1990s:

Or more recent data such as you can see in Dr. Grabinsky’s lecture:

So, finding a way to have a 12-gauge more readily accessible is very tempting.
