Hawaii

Just wondering If anyone here is in Hawaii? Thanks.

I wish I was…Hopefully will be out there on vacation in the next couple of years.

I’m not from there but curious. Spent some temdu there in the Navy.

Are you on the main island? Get out to Molokai if you haven’t or aren’t from there.

Arguably the most beautiful place on the planet. It’s like seeing the color “green” for the first time.

love it…I go there on vacation every year :)…Oahu, Maui, Kaui…Big Island…and Molokai…lots of stuff to do/see if you are into outdoors…local food is awesome too.

I hate waikiki though…

Hate Waikiki? OK…Well I was hoping there may be someone in the area who wanted to get together and talk shop.

this is just what i was looking for, me and the wife want to visit, budget of around 4k and having trouble finding good hotel/travel deals. can anyone who’s been here (nudges impact) give some advise or contacts to help me get the most for my money?

Hmmmm…Well looks like I am the only one here…Everyone else either wants to be here, has already been here, or is trying to get here.

That will be hard to do for 4K. I was there in 2003 with my girl and
I spent 5K for everything. Of course, I stayed right on waikiki beach
ocean front hotel.

i like staying with the locals…B&B is the way to go for me.

I’ve been to Hawaii 4 times on vacations from 5 to 11 days. I’ve stayed on Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island. Where you stay and what it will cost is going to depend totally on your interests. Into hiking and general outdoors stuff? Kauai is probably for you. There are expensive resorts at both the N and S tips of the island, but otherwise things aren’t too expensive. You’ll have to take an island hopper to get there, though, because none of the major airlines fly right to Kauai to the best of my knowledge.

Oahu has one must-see attraction (Pearl Harbor). If you visit Hawaii and don’t go to Pearl Harbor, your American citizenship should be revoked. Otherwise, Oahu (and Waikiki in particular) is basically every ugly thing about tourism you can imagine rolled into one small space. My personal advice: stay on another island and hop over to Oahu for a day to visit Pearl Harbor and see Waikiki just for the humor/repulsion factor.

The Big Island’s main attraction is the volcano, but you can also go snow skiing if you want! The tallest peak on the island is technically the tallest “mountain” in the world, since they measure it from the seabed instead of from sea level. It extends well above normal cloud cover and the peak is covered in snow most of the year. We didn’t get to the summit during our last trip because it was closed … thanks to a blizzard! The Big Island basically has two main towns and it’s a long drive in between. Plenty of nice beaches and the snorkeling is pretty good. We stayed at the Hilton resort on the west side of the island, which is so big it has both waterborne and monorail transport systems to get you from place to place within the complex.

Maui is as tourist-friendly as Oahu without being quite so brutally commercialized. However, it’s almost a pretty expensive place to stay, especially if you go to the resorts at Kaanapali (sp?). We’ve stayed at the Sheraton and Marriott there, both were very nice. The Sheraton is right up against Black Rock, which is probably one of the top snorkeling sites in the world. You walk a couple hundred yards from your hotel room onto the beach, right into the water, and you’re surrounded by fish, sea turtles, rays, etc.

Kailua/Lanikai side of Ohau is very nice ( other side of Pali)…not too far from the USMC Kanehoe base.

Hey guys…Did I mention I live in Hawaii?..OK just checking.

Hey Coble…I don’t even think they know you are here anymore…lol.

I’m Back!!!

i’m here too.

Sure am.

I lived there for 4 years, 1993 to '97. First duty station. Got to see parts of the island up close and personal.
I think the restrictive gun laws there kept me from buying a firearm (complicated process). How are they now?

no change. just as bad.

Yeah, that really sucked. At least the Army gave me some shooting time while I was there. I don’t even know where to go to shoot on Oahu (public range). Is there a range, or a place you can just go shooting?
