I travel to Arizona on an almost weekly basis. I’d like to possibly stay a weekend and take a carbine course around the area, but wasn’t sure about transporting ammo. I know you can, but some courses require bringing quite a bit of ammo. What have you generally done for this situation ie. check an extra bag, have it shipped to the course site?
May be a dumb question, but 500 to a 1000 rounds gets pretty heavy. Just trying to figure out logistics of showing up with the correct amount the easiest and cheapest way possible.
If you had the ammo already and it was bought and paid for, then I would say that it would be best to ship it in via UPS.
It would be cheaper than excess baggage fees. If you don’t have the ammo then you would be better off buying it here. If you are located where I think you are then UPS won’t be very expensive. Is there a reason you can’t drive here which would make it really easy?
Most airlines have a roughly 11 lb weight limit on ammo.
You’d be better off shipping it, usually the course host is pretty agreeable to having the ammo shipped and held for students.
Ammo requirements for classes are often padded so if the class requires 1k rds then you’ll probaly have 1-200 rounds leftover which you can then pack (in original packaging) in your checked baggage on the return trip.
