Hats

There was a casualty suffered when trekking around Patagonia. The high winds took one of my favorite ballcaps and sent it no doubt first to Argentina and then to Antarctica and beyond to the edge of the Earth. Said head wear that I lost in a great sacrifice to Aeolus was low-pro, unhindered by any advertising logos, and a FDE/Coyote color.

I spent the remainder of the trip not in opprobrium due to an uncovered crown but instead found an abhorrent replacement in the form of the developing nation’s finest product: The $4 Nike knock-off.

Attached is one of the last known photos of said head wear. Ignore the other beautiful people, gear, and mountains.

Long story short: Looking for a new ball cap. Any suggestions?

Arcteryx BAC is pretty hard to beat.

The Mesh Tac Hat from GoRuck is what I have been sporting. Made from 1000D Cordura.

You’re in Patagonia . . . you lucky bastard?!

Foliage green with envy my friend.

As for covers I get a lot of milage out of SKD’s “Tactical Ball Cap”.

They also carry the Arc’teryx B.A.C. Caps and the MSM CG-Hat Mesh DLUX if you desire ventilation to keep your dome cool.

I have a fetish for the BCM caps :frowning:

BCM Hats…Me too

I lost my favorite hat in a hunting trip last year I haven’t found a hat that feels right ever since, good luck

I like the flex fit hats myself, and like the looks of the Arcteryx BAC but just won’t pay 30-40 bucks for a flex fit hat no matter who’s logo is on it. Still even if I bought a new hat, I would fall back to my favorite one till it finally dies or disappears.

Good luck on your search for a new one.

Nothing like a perfect hat that fits just right. What I now do is if I find the one, I buy two of them. Otherwise something happens and I cant replace it as I cant find one like what I had.

Best… hat… ever… Arc’teryx B.A.C. Cap

I like this hat a lot. I was looking for a hat that didn’t have a button on top and this seemed to fit the bill. Velcro front, back, and a small piece up top. Wore it all summer off duty and to a pistol class. No problems at all.

I appreciate the suggestions so far.

Yes a good cap can be hard to find. I probably have dozens of them but only rotate a few of them. Once you’ve sweated through a hat several times and been exposed to the elements in it, just seems to ‘fit just right’. I have other hats equipped with Velcro in many colors and patterns from different manufacturers that I’ve been given over the years but damn if I didn’t like that plain-jane hat with no button.

ETA: if I can find where Reggie Matthews gets his blanks that might be a good start. Seems like most of my logo’d favorites originated with him.

I’ve been wearing the one I got for free with my first BAD-ASS purchase. It does have the logo though.

Viper Headwear

I have and like the BAC, but it is a bit taller and more structured than the OP’s donation to the Patagonia wildlife.

I like the plain Larue hats, but they do have the Velcro and IIRC a small Larue stitched over the back adjuster.

Because it’s got electrolytes!:

…not my auction…

Okay, LOL’ed. Loved the movie.

And now he has one less hat.

For just a knock-around town hat, I have a very old Noveske hat that I got with a purchase a long time ago. Just has the logo upfront. Those that know, know.

For shooting classes, I have a disgustingly old and nasty ball cap from Tactical Assault Gear. It’s got a nylon strap in back with a ladderlock buckle, so I can wear it over a fleece cap in cold weather, and still keep brass off my face. It also has a velcro strip on the back, where I have a embroidered nametag with my last name. Very handy to have an instructor be able to call you by your last name on the line, instead of “Hey you, shitstain!” I cut all the other velcro doodads off of it. Be advised that TAG had a delivery reputation slightly better that Botach. But not by much.

I have a big box full of gimme caps from companies here, most people do. You can always put up a WTT ad in the EE for what you want.

My favorite cap is my Rogue American Apparel OD green hat. The sweatband in their hats are really nice, I highly recommend one.
