Has the panic subsiding had any effect on EE prices?

I’m not going to post links, but I’m having a tough time not PMing the sellers and asking wtf.

Maybe they are trying to recoup the high prices they paid during the panic? There are a ton of firearms listed (not just on this forum but that’s mainly to where I’m referring) as used that sellers are asking 25%-50% more than I can go buy the gun new for.

It’s pretty unfortunate because I’m in the market to buy now (finally) but looking for good deals on used firearms is pretty stupid. Who would pay $1500 for something that’s used when he can pay $1100 for it brand new?

I’m guessing that people are being optimistic thinking they can still price gouge and make it out ahead, and I’m guessing people paid too much for some things during the panic and are trying to recoup the money spent. Either way, its stupid.

I thought alot of used things in EE were always overpriced, even before the panic. I can’t buy a used pistol for $50 less than new, it doesn’t add up to me, unless its had work done or upgrades that justify it. Lots if things are priced at retail minus 10%. Makes no sense to me, let alone above retail.

Even during the panic I didn’t sell anything at inflated pricing. But now the few things I do have for sale are price way below non inflated retail and nothing is moving! I’ve got a 700 in 338 LM package that I’d like to sell of trade but no serious interest. Same with an AK and a couple other things

Yeah, I just tried selling a BCM/Mega AR that had all quality parts for well below pre-panic parts cost and still didn’t even get a sniff. Barely sold it on gunbroker. Not a whole lot moving right now since everyone apparently blew their wad during the panic.

There’s an item in EE that is FOUR TIMES the price you can get it from the manufacturer for right now. I do not understand how anyone can assume that potential buyers will not shop around on the 'net to make sure their price is inline with the current market.

I have bought several items on EE for the best retail price I could find, but the seller was paying shipping. That saves me a few bucks in the end, but I only buy from well known sellers.

Does not surprise me.

We have several local stores that act as if Sandy Hook happened last month…as far as their pricing goes.

The best way to “correct” these things is to not buy them. The beauty of the free market, if you will.

It has been the same around here. I have told a couple shop owners that I would prefer to support local businesses but will buy online until they drop their prices.

Give it another month or so and it will be a buyer’s market. Too many people with too little spending discipline bought too much gear. The bills come due and the credit card company doesn’t care the someone overpaid or not, they just want their money.

Even worse, someone who doesn’t let their wife know what they are spending gets a rude awakening if she sees the bills. Then the urgency to sell is compounded by both financial and “other” pressure.

My local gun sellers have their Colt 6920s at 1400-1500 bucks…or more.

Wal Mart outside our city has them at 1150.

Wal Mart also never tried to sell me a 25 dollar box of WWB 9mm in the last 6 months, either.

Hard to justify helping the local guys when you have not seen a raise in income in 4 years and the big box store is steady on their pricing no matter what.

I would like to support the local guys but they make it damned hard to do so. Sure…they are in business to make money but so am I! I did not get where I am in life by paying everyone 200-300 dollars more on my big ticket purchases! My last name is not Gates or Rockefeller…hello!

There are still low post count douches who joined specifically to gouge us, even before sandy hook, then raised prices after the fact. For some reason, they weren’t banned and are still with us.

There in lies the problem, both with your mental understanding of the economy and what the “Big Box” retailers are doing to the smaller guy.

Its called economy of scale. Your LGS has higher prices because they pay higher prices for things from distributors and manufacturers. The reason for that is we as small brick and mortar stores can not, physically and financially buy or move the amount of product that a Big Box retailer like Wal-Mart does.

Wal-Mart can buy in such large volumes and moves so much product that it dwarfs what your “Price Gouging LGS” can do.

Next time think before you speak.

Are you saying I should pay an extra 30% for an item (in this case, $300 minimum) to protect small business owners? There has to be a limit. I’m not made of money and if I had to choose between Walmart at $1100 and Bob’s Gun Store at $1450…guess where I’m going?

Now with that said, Grant has 6920s in stock listed at $1155 right now. I’d pay that premium increase to support the little guy. But why spend $350 more at Bob’s Gun Store just so he can ignore me for 15 minutes while I stand at the counter with my wallet out and then tell me how Navy SEALs use Rock River Arms and I’m just “paying for the name”?

P.S. the price on your rifle in the EE is very good, especially considering the optic. I’d pick it up if it wasn’t in .338

Never said you should pay the prices, just saying why it is. Some places really are just price gouging. Our price on LE6920’s is $1075, which then we would mark it up 25% which is a normal retail mark up, which after that is 1343.75 and we would round up to $1350.

There in lies the problem.

Why bother? It’s their asking price. If you can find better and cheaper elsewhere then just do that.

If a person lists an Olympic Plinker for $3k it really doesn’t matter why. They will either sell it, not sell it, adjust their price or keep it. And honestly high prices help everyone else sell their shit.

If somebody offers their item for way below market value everyone who has one for sales complains that it’s making theirs hard to sell.

If somebody offers their item way above market value everyone complains as if somebody is being forced to buy it.

Regardless of asking price, it will either sell or it won’t. That is the beauty of the free market. Sometimes it’s sweet like when I was able to move my “in stock” supply of Pmags for $75 each, sometimes it really sucks like when my $1 start auctions sell for at or near the $1 starting price.

The market is what it is.

I’m a fan of the free market, and I don’t believe there is such a thing as gouging at all. I sold 28 PMAGs with 28 rounds of Federal XM193 for like $2250 a few months ago. The guy said he “needed ammo badly” and I should just “throw him a price”. I said $2500 and he said “$2250 and you’ve got a deal”.

I thought he was insane. I’ve been on the flip side of the situation as well. There are more than enough threads on here where I have sold complete 100% BCM rifles for <$800. I’ve sold at least two on this forum alone. I needed money now, so I lowered the price. I even got a nastygram from another seller claiming I was lowering the value of his sale.

I have no desire to tell sellers what to do. Its mainly a curiousity thing. Are they deliberately trying to get more from unsuspecting buyers or are they just completely unaware of what the market commands right now?

Its just unbelievable someone would ask a price for something that is used where I can buy it from the manufacturer, brand new, for $500 less. I’m curious, thats all.

Ok, now I understand. I took your original post in a completely different way than you intended.

Same thing happened after the 1st Obama election. All the people who thought they needed an ar, but now are having regrets, haven’t figured out they are gonna take a hit getting rid of it. They are still trying to get their money back. Wait a couple months and keep a sharp eye out, The deals will be coming. Stockpile for the next time.

buy low, sell high

Exactly. There were have been a few things where I’ve been like
But then I just  and move on. It’ll sort itself out after 30 “bump” posts of the price incrementally lowering.

That being said- that panic has subsided? Must have missed that.
Still no ammo, and prices on the avilable are still asinine.
BUT WAIT- it’s “priced to sell!”

(Not referencing any board members here on the ammo- frankly I haven’t bothered to look lately- but I have seen that exact thing very recently.)
